From the likes of Martin Crowe and Jeff Crowe to Deepak Chahar and Rahul Chahar, cricket over the years has witnessed several Brother Duos taking International cricket by storm. They share the same passion and dream of doing well while representing their nation at the highest level.

Fair to say Cricket runs in their blood. There have been instances where the brothers have got together to clinch victory for their country.

In this article, let’s take a look at 12 famous Brother Duos who have played International cricket.

1. Krunal Pandya and Hardik Pandya (INDIA)

The Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya have been match-winners for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Hardik made his India debut in 2016 has represented India in all three formats. The medium-pacer allrounder has one International Hundred which came against Sri Lanka at Pallekele in 2017. He became the first Indian player to score 100 runs in a session in Test cricket before lunch on any day. Hardik’s career has been ridden with injuries, but he still is a vital member of the India cricket team.

Krunal Pandya is also one of the most sought-after names in the IPL. He first came to the limelight, when the Mumbai Indians bought him in the IPL 2016 auctions for two crores. Since then, he has been a cog in the wheel for Mumbai Indians. Krunal made his International debut in 2018 against West Indies at the Eden Gardens.


2. Yusuf Pathan and Irfan Pathan (INDIA)

Both Irfan Pathan and Yusuf Pathan have retired from international cricket. The duo has played together for most of their cricketing career.

Yusuf, who is the eldest of the two, is known as one of the hardest hitters of the cricket ball in world cricket. He made his India debut in 2007 against Pakistan at the Wanderers stadium. He has represented India in over fifty one-day internationals and twenty-two T20 internationals, with 123 being his highest score and 3/49 his best figures.

Irfan Pathan was a medium pace all-rounder who could swing the ball both ways. He made his International debut at the age of 19 against Australia in 2003. Irfan has delivered many match-winning spells for India.


3. Deepak Chahar and Rahul Chahar (INDIA)

Rahul Chahar and Deepak Chahar are cousin brothers. Both have made a name for themselves playing in the Indian Premier League.

Deepak, who is a fast-bowling all-rounder made his India debut in 2018 against England at County Ground. In a short international career so far, Deepak has impressed everyone with his swing bowling. He holds the record for best bowling figures in a T20I match – Six wickets for 7 runs against Bangladesh in 2019-20. In the 2021 ODI series against Sri Lanka, Deepak played a match-winning knock of unbeaten 69 to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

Deepak’s cousin Rahul, is a leg-spinner whose skills can deceive even the best of the players. He has represented India in three T20Is and one ODI so far. In fact, he received his ODI cap from Deepak during the India vs Sri Lanka 2021 series. Rahul plays for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League and has played a major role for their side.


4. Brett Lee and Shane Lee (AUSTRALIA)

Former Australia cricketers Brett Lee and Shane lee are the former Australian cricketers. While Brett Lee went on to become one of Australia’s greatest pace bowlers of all time, Shane had a rather short International career. He made his debut for Australia in 1995 and his career lasted a span of five years. He was also part of the Australian side that won the World Cup in 1999.

Brett Lee had quite an illustrious career. He has taken 310 Test and 380 ODI wickets in 76 and 221 matches respectively. His raw pace was threatening for any batsman in the world. He was also a very handy batsman, scoring over 1000 runs in ODIs, including three fifties.


5. Albie Morkel and Morne Morkel (SOUTH AFRICA)

Albie Morkel is a pace all-rounder who played for South Africa. He made his debut against New Zealand in an ODI in 2004. Albie had a short International career which lasted 58 ODIs and a single test, picking 50 ODI wickets at an average of 37.98.

Morne Morkel is a right-arm fast bowler. He could intimidate even the best in the world with his pace and bounce. He made his Test debut against India in 2006 at the Kingsmead in Durban. Morne was the leading wicket-taker for South Africa in the 2015 ODI World Cup. In 2018, he decided to retire from the sport.

Twin brothers Steve and Mark Waugh are the Australian greats. Steve was an all-rounder while Mark was a right-handed batsman. Mark Waugh apart from batting was a handy pace bowler but later he opted to bowl off-spin to avoid injuries. He is regarded as one of the best slip fielders ever.

Steve became the 30th cricketer to be inducted into the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame. He is considered to be one of the greatest captains to have ever played the game. Steve led the Australian team to victory in the 1999 Cricket World Cup. His contribution to Australian cricket is held in high regard.


7. Brendon McCullum and Nathan McCullum (NEW ZEALAND)

Brendon is considered the most successful captain and one of the finest batsmen to have ever played for New Zealand. He averages 38.64 in just over a hundred test matches and has scored 6453 runs, including 12 Hundred. Brendon could take on any International bowling attack in the world.

Nathan was a bowling all-rounder and has represented New Zealand in ODIs and T20Is. Before cricket, he used to play football as a striker for Caversham AFC and also won the team’s golden boot award by scoring 19 goals in Football South Premier League in 1999.

Michael Hussey, former Australian cricketer who is also called Mr. Cricket was a late entrant into the international side but still became a top-class cricketer for Australia. The left-handed batsman had a batting average of 51.52 in tests and 48.15 in ODIs. In 2012, he announced his retirement from cricket.

David, a former Australian cricketer was a batting all-rounder. He has a batting average of 32.65 in ODIs and 22.90 in T20Is. Despite his excellent first-class career, he was never selected to play for the test side.


9. Shaun Marsh and Mitchell Marsh (AUSTRALIA)

Shaun Marsh and Mitch Marsh’s father Geoff was a former Australian opening batsman. The southpaw is a top-order batsman for the Australian team and is also an occasional spin bowler. He scored a superb century on his Test debut in Sri Lanka in 2011. Shaun has a batting average of 40.78 in ODIs. However, his inconsistency and the injuries have often been a concern.

Mitch Marsh is an all-rounder who can bowl at a good pace and can hit the ball hard at the death. He has also captained the Australian side in the 2010 U-19 Cricket World Cup. Mitch made his debut against South Africa in 2011 and has represented Australia in all three formats of the game.

Grant Flower is rated among the best players to have represented Zimbabwe. He was also a brilliant fielder who was usually seen in the gully. Both Grant and Andy were the mainstays of the Zimbabwe batting line-up. The duo was nick-named ‘Flower Power’. After retirement, they both turned to coaching.

Andy was a wicket-keeper batsman. He was acknowledged as one of the best Test players in Zimbabwean cricket. Andy is also the only player to score an ODI hundred on debut in a world cup match.


11. Martin Crowe and Jeff Crowe (NEW ZEALAND)

Martin Crowe was a middle-order batsman for New Zealand. He was the best batsman of the 1992 WC, with 456 runs at an average of 114. Martin was renowned as the best young cricketer in the world and was also named Wisden Cricketer of the year in 1985. He breathed his last on Mar 03, 2016.

Martin and Jeff’s father, Dave Crowe was a first-class cricketer in New Zealand. Jeff captained New Zealand in 6 Test matches. He has also served as the manager of the New Zealand cricket team. Since 2004 he has been working as ICC Match Referee.


12. Kamran Akmal and Umar Akmal (PAKISTAN)

Pakistan cricketer Kamran Akmal is a right-handed batsman and also a wicketkeeper. He made his debut in  November 2002 against Zimbabwe in a Test match. Kamran has played in over 157 ODIs 58 T20Is and 53 test matches for Pakistan. In 2010, he was appointed the vice-captain of the Pakistani test team but was later removed because of his alleged involvement in spot-fixing.

Umar represented Pakistan in the 2008 U19 Cricket World Cup in Malaysia. In 2009, in two unofficial test matches against Australia A, he performed brilliantly, which led to his inclusion in the Pakistan squad. Umar’s career has often come under scrutiny for various reasons. He has been banned for 12 months, from July 2021 to not reporting corrupt approaches.
