Ed Joyce is an Irish cricketer who represented England in 2007 World Cup and Ireland in 2011 World Cup. He is a left-handed batsman and is considered to be one of the best batsmen produced by Ireland.

According to general rules, it would take 4 years for a player to qualify to play for a country. Joyce represented team England in 2007 World Cup and hence it was expected that he would miss playing for Ireland in the 2011 World Cup. But with a special permission from the ICC, he played for Ireland in the 2011 World Cup.
