Chennai Super Kings roped in India’s Test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara for 50 lakhs in the IPL 2021 auction. Pujara last played in the IPL in 2014 after which he did not opt to enroll in the auction. Ahead of this season, the Indian Test specialist spoke about his interest in playing the shortest format and thus registered himself in the auctions. Pujara played last for Punjab Kings in IPL 2014. 

The Indian cricket fans celebrated after Cheteshwar Pujara was bought by Chennai Super Kings at the IPL 2021 auction. Pujara also took to Twitter to thank the MS Dhoni-led franchise for showing faith in him by roping him in.

“Thank you for showing the faith. Look forward!” Pujara tweeted.

Pujara has played 30 games in the IPL and will now don the yellow jersey for the former champions. Speaking to NDTV, Cheteshwar Pujara said that if given an opportunity, he is confident of doing well in the IPL. 

Cheteshwar Pujara’s New Innings With CSK

“Definitely want to be part of the IPL. Given an opportunity, I am confident I’ll be able to do well,” he told NDTV.

Pujara had started his IPL career with Kolkata Knight Riders and stayed with them till 2010. He moved to Royal Challengers Bangalore from 2011 to 2013. In IPL 2014 auction, Pujara joined Kings XI Punjab. He was released ahead of IPL 2015 auction. He is a regular in the English Country cricket. 

Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings made some interesting buys in the IPL 2021 auction. They bought the likes of Moeen Ali and Krishnappa Gowtham for 7 crores and 9.5 crores respectively. With this Gowtham became the most expensive uncapped Indian player at IPL auction. 

Chennai Super Kings will be led by the maverick MS Dhoni yet again in the IPL after CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanath confirmed him of playing the next season. Suresh Raina will also be back for the next season with the franchise. The likes of Harbhajan Singh and Kedar Jadhav were earlier released by the franchise.
