England Lions starts the Tri-Series with thumping 7 Wickets win over India A

The hosts started off to a flying start as they defeated India A by 7 wickets in the opening match of tri-series played at County Ground, Derby just finished a few moments ago. After winning the toss, India A batsmen could not score many runs. While chasing the hosts, England Lions chased down a modest target of 233 with ease.

India A captain Sheryas Iyer won the toss and decided to bat first. Prithvi Shaw and Mayank Agarwal got the team off to a steady start adding 27 runs for the first wicket. Shaw could only contribute 7 runs. Mayank Agarwal looked in aggressive touch and also Shubman Gill played with positive intent. India A lost their 2nd wicket of Mayank Agarwal for 23 runs.

India A posted 55 for 2 after the end of first 10 overs. Shubman Gill also showed good class with his batting and was dismissed for 37 runs by Dawson. Captain Sheryas Iyer and Rishabh Pant steadied the innings with a 71 runs stand for the 4th wicket. Iyer was dismissed for 42. Pant continued his brilliant touch and reached his half-century off 44 balls.

Pant was dismissed for 64. Axar Patel contributed 25 and Deepak Chahar made a useful 21. India A was bowled out for 232 in 46.3 overs. For England Lions, Liam Dawson was the pick of bowlers with 4 for 30 while TG Helm picked 3 for 33.

Chasing 233 to win, Shardul Thakur got an early wicket of Kohler- Cadmore for just 7 runs. SR Hain and Gubbins steadied the innings with attacking stroke play. At the end of 10 overs, England Lions scored 49 for 1.

After the first 10 overs, both SR Hain and Gubbins played with positive intent putting pressure on India A bowlers. Gubbins reached his half-century off 54 balls while SR Hain made the batting look easy. Hain also completed 50 off 60 balls.

Axar Patel got the big wicket of SR Hain for 54. Both of them added 134 runs for the 2nd wicket. Livingstone scored a quick fire 27 off 24 balls. Gubbins continued his aggressive intent and remained not out on 128. England Lions won the match by 7 wickets with 49 balls to spare. For India A, Shardul Thakur was the pick of bowlers with 2 for 30 in 7 overs.

England Lions 236 for 3 in 41.5 overs ( Gubbins 128*, SR Hain 54, Shardul Thakur 2/30) beat

India A 232 in 46.3 overs (R Pant 64, S Iyer 42, Shubman Gill 37, Liam Dawson 4/30, TG Helm 3/33) by 7 wickets.

India A will play their 2nd match of the tournament against West Indies A on 25th June at Grace Road, Leicester.
