There is a little doubt that Women”s Cricket is not given as much importance as Men”s cricket in India, in many parts of the world for that matter. For some reasons, the men are always given spotlight.
It has in a way made an impact on the performance of women cricketers. For a long time, women cricketers were not given central contracts by the board. This was clearly a discrimination, for even the women put in as much effort as men to represent their country.
Australia was the first country to start a T20 league for women, the WBBL to go along with Men”s BBL. It was quite early in BBL (5th edition) that they came up with a Women”s league. But still even after 10 editions of IPL, we are yet to see a women”s IPL and it looks like there is a lot of time before we get to one.
The 2017 Women”s World Cup gets underway on 24 June with an encounter between hosts England and India at County Ground in Derby. Veteran Mithali Raj is leading India in the all-important event. In a press conference, she silenced the reporters.
The reporter asked, “Which is your favorite men cricketer?” Mithali didn”t seem to take this question too amusingly. She lashed out saying, “Do you ask any male cricketer who is his favorite female cricketer?”
