Here is what the CAC has to say on the appointment of the next coach

The Cricket Advisory Committee including Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, and VVS Laxman were supposed to announce India’s next head coach today but they have decided to hold on the announcement. They will speak to few other people especially the captain Virat Kohli who have finished the West Indies tour losing a lone T20 match last night.

They had interviewed Lalchand Rajput, Tom Moody, Richard Pybus, Virender Sehwag and Ravi Shastri in today’s meeting. Anil Kumble had resigned after the fight from captain since the last six months as the situation got out off hand during the Champions Trophy 2017. The Indian team lost to Pakistan by 180 runs.

“We feel there is no hurry at the moment,” Ganguly said on Monday in Mumbai. “Sri Lanka tour is in a week”s time, the board headed by [secretary] Amitabh Choudhary and [CEO] Rahul Johri will probably continue with the same set for the time being.

“You got to give credit to Virat that he is just completely straight about it. He has no input, he has not sent any names, but we feel as the Advisory Committee that he is the captain, which is the most important thing in cricket. He and everyone of us need to be on the same page because for us Indian cricket is more important. We are just a small bit; the main bit is the players who are going to play with the coach,” said  Sourav Ganguly, member of the Cricket Advisory Committee.

The Men in Blue are without the coach since the finish of Champions Trophy 2017 held in England last month. India won the ODI series against West Indies by 3-1 and lost the lone T20 match by 1-0. CAC needs more time to decide on the coaching job as they need to talk with Indian captain Virat Kohli to decide on Anil Kumble replacement as a coach. They will tour Sri Lanka with the first test match starting from 26th July and will without a head coach.

Phil Simmons was not called for the interview. Tom Moody and Ravi Shastri are the frontrunners to become India’s next coach with Virender Sehwag having an outside chance. Last year Anil Kumble was selected over Ravi Shastri. Ravi Shastri was the team director for team India for 2 years and did a decent enough job as the rapport between Kohli and Shastri is good.
