In the youtube video on 28th December, cricket and cricket analysis Mikkhail Vaswani talked about the exclusion of Ravichandran Ashwin from ODI and T20I squad. Seeing Washington Sundar drafted into the T20I squad means that Indian cricket has moved beyond Ravichandran Ashwin in limited overs format.

India’s ace off-spinner R Ashwin who has been a match winner for India in all formats has been dropped from the One day international and T20I international squad. Washington Sundar who was given a chance in the T20I match against Sri Lanka at Mumbai shows that the Indian selectors are experimenting. Ashwin played his last T20I match against West Indies on 9th July 2017. His inability to take wickets and control the run flow has put him in danger of not being selected in the T20I squad also.

With the 2019 World Cup in mind, Indian selectors are giving chances to youngsters. The youngsters have done well with Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav taking wickets in the middle overs.
Ashwin has been not picking wickets in the middle overs and also giving away too many runs. Youngsters like Sheryas Iyer scored well against Sri Lanka, also has been selected for the 6 match ODI series against South Africa to be played in February this year. Also, Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav have been continued.
This means that Ashwin coming back into the limited overs format for India is highly unlikely. Indian team wants to pick specialists for formats. Ashwin and Jadeja would play in test cricket. Ashwin made his ODI debut in 2010 and has played 111 One day internationals taking 150 wickets. He conceded 70 runs in 10 overs. Now with Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav coming into the ODI squad, Ashwin needs to work harder if he wants to play the 2019 World Cup to be held in England.
