The second day continued to be a frustrating day at the Eden Garden’s, Kolkata. Match began earlier today.

Pujara and Rahane started the day on 17 for 3. Both of them added 13 runs before Rahane was dismissed by Dasun Shanka for 4 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin came at number 6 and scored 4 runs. Ashwin played a poor stroke. Cheteshwar Pujara remained solid with good defensive technique, scoring boundaries off bad balls.

Sri Lanka captain Chandimal bought in Karunanthe. Pujara attacked the part-time bowler. Saha also scored a boundary. It was a good batting display by Pujara who remained not out on 47 in bowler-friendly conditions.

Rain intervened and early lunch was taken. Rain stopped but again come again. Again Rain stopped at 1.00 before heavy rains called off the play. At the end of day 2, India struggled at 74 for 5 in 32. 5 overs. Only 21 were possible on the second day. With tough conditions expected in overseas tours, it is a great test for the Indian batsmen to show their class on these type of pitches.

Dasun Shankar picked 2 wickets. Suragana Lakmal continued to bowl well giving away just 4 runs. Another rain expected day could lead to a draw. Pujara has played with great patience and needs to continue to put partnership with Saha and lower order to help team India go above a competitive total.

India 74 for 5 in 32. 5 overs ( Pujara 47*, Shanaka 2/23, Lakmal 3/5)
