IPL 2018: David Warner steps down as captain for Sunrisers Hyderabad

In wake of ball tampering case, the hard hitting Australian batsman David Warner decided to step down as the captain Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise. Warner, Cameron Bancroft and Steve Smith has been sent home to Australia regarding to ball tampering scandal during the 3rd test against South Africa played at Cape Town.

Earlier, Steve Smith stepped down from the captaincy of Rajasthan Royals franchise. David Warner has been the backbone of Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise. In the 2017 edition, the pocket dynamo Warner scored 452 runs in 14 matches with 1 century and 4 half centuries. Warner also led Sunrisers Hyderabad to their first Indian Premier League title in 2016 edition scoring 848 runs in 17 matches with no centuries but 9 half centuries.

David Warner was one of the best batsmen for Sunrisers Hyderabad batting line that provided great starts and put pressure on opposition bowlers.

According to SRH CEO K Shanmugam, he said “In light of recent events, David Warner has stepped down as captain of SunRisers Hyderabad. The new captain of the Team will be announced shortly.”

Warner represented Delhi Daredevils from 2009 till 2013. From 2014 onwards, David Warner was a part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad squad and has performed brilliantly well for this franchise. In the 2018 edition, SRH looks a strong unit with Yusuf Pathan, Manish Pandey, Kane Williamson, Shakib Al Hasan, Basil Thampi, Deepak Hooda, Chris Jordan. Bhuvneshwar Kumar , Siddarth Kaul,would lead the pace bowling department.

Kane Williamson, Shikhar Dhawan are strong contenders to lead Sunrisers Hyderabad squad for season 11.  It is going to be a challenge for SRH franchise to perform without the hard hitting David Warner. In the IPL 10 edition, SRH finished 4th.

Sunrisers Hyderabad began the 2018 edition against Rajasthan Royals on 9th March at Hyderabad.
