IPL 2018: Delhi Daredevils register their 4th win of the season, beat CSK by 34 runs

Delhi Daredevils gave their fans some happiness by beating Chennai Super Kings in the 53rd match of VIVO IPL 2018 played at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, New Delhi just finished a few moments ago. CSK captain won the toss and elected to field first. CSK bowlers did a decent job and restricted DD to a modest total. While chasing, apart from Rayudu none of CSK batsmen contributed.

Chennai Super Kings won the toss and elected to field first. Delhi Daredevils Prithvi Shaw and captain Sheryas Iyer started off to slow start adding 24 runs for the first wicket. Shaw was dismissed by Deepak Chahar for 17 runs. Inform Pant and Iyer took time to settle. At the end of 6 overs, Delhi Daredevils scored 39 for 1.

After the power play overs, Pant continued his brilliant form with his attacking batting. While Delhi Daredevils captain Iyer played slowly and could not score quick runs. Both Iyer and Pant added 54 runs for the 2nd wicket. Lungi Ngidi dismissed Iyer and Pant in the same over to break the backbone of Delhi Daredevils batting line up.

Glenn Maxwell who returned after missing last game again failed scoring just 5 runs. Abhishek Sharma could not score much. Vijay Shankar and Harshal Patel steadied the ship by adding 65 unbeaten runs for the 6th wicket. Both of them remained not out on 36 each. Delhi Daredevils posted 162 for 5 in 20 overs. For Chennai Super Kings, Lungi Ngidi picked 2 wickets for just 14 runs while Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar picked up 1 wicket each.

Chasing 163, Rayudu looked in aggressive touch while Shane Watson struggled. At the end of six overs, CSK scored 44 for 0. After the power play overs, Amit Mishra dismissed Watson for 14 runs. Both of them added 46 runs for opening wicket. Rayadu took charge with aggressive hitting and reached his half-century off 28 balls.

Rayudu was dismissed for 50 runs by Harshal Patel. After that Delhi Daredevils spinners Amit Mishra and Lamichhane restricted run flow, also picked wickets. Harshal Patel bowled brilliantly and gave away just 23 runs and picked 1 wicket. MS Dhoni also struggled to time the ball scoring 17 off 23 balls. Ravindra Jadeja remained not out on 27 off 18 balls. CSK scored 128 for 6 in 20 overs.

For Delhi Daredevils, Amit Mishra and Trent Boult picked 2 wickets each. Lamichhane also bowled well taking 1 wicket.

DD 162 for 5 in 20 overs ( R Pant 38, Harshal Patel 36*, Vijay Shankar 36*, Lungi Ngidi 2/14)  beat

CSK 128 for 6 in 20 overs ( Rayudu 50, Ravindra Jadeja 27*, Trent Boult 2/20, Amit Mishra 2/20) by 34 runs.

CSK captain MS Dhoni said: It was a difficult batting wicket. Difficult to predict how this pitch behaves. Need to be practical for the reasons of loss. Now with the playoff stages coming, we need to see the reasons and play with positive intent in our last league match against Kings XI Punjab.

DD captain Shreyas Iyer said: Really satisfying victory for us. We really worked hard for this victory. It was not an easy wicket to bat. Harshal Patel played well with bat and also ball. He scored runs in the last over and helped us to get 162.

Man of the match Harshal Patel said: Happy with the win. The wicket was not easy to bat on. There was a lot of dew but I was focused on bowling correct line and lengths. The next match against Mumbai Indians would be important to gain some confidence ahead of season 12.

Royal Challengers Bangalore will take on Rajasthan Royals in first match tomorrow at Jaipur while KKR face SRH in the second match at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad.
