The news came after David Warner stepped down as the skipper yesterday as he was suspended for a year by CA.

Kane Williamson has been a consistent batsman and a good leader for NZ since the retirement of Brendon Mccullum. Given a chance, he will try to improve the captaincy skills that ultimately makes him lead his national side better.

The SRH management took Twitter to announce this news which says :

Williamson had represented SRH in 15 matches till now. He wasn”t a permanent part of the squad due to the presence of all-rounders like Ben cutting and Moises Henriques in the past.

Williamson can now be a stable opener or a batsman at no:3 positions acting as a bridge between the Openers and the middle order.

On his appointment, Williamson said, “I’ve accepted the role to stand in as captain for this season. It’s an exciting opportunity with a talented group of players. I look forward to the challenges ahead.”

Reports suggest that Kusal Perera has been approached by the franchise as a replacement for Warner.

Kane Williamson is currently leading the side against England in the test series and is expected to join the squad next week.

SRH will start their campaign against RR on April 9, 2018 at Hyderabad.
