IPL 2018: Mumbai Indians crush Kolkata Knight Riders by 102 runs to move into top 4

Mumbai Indians continued their winning momentum by producing a dominating performance against Kolkata Knight Riders by in the 41st match of VIVO IPL played at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Winning the toss, Dinesh Karthik elected to field. Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma, Surya Kumar Yadav and Ben Cutting knocks helped MI to post a massive total. While chasing, KKR lost wickets and were crushed by MI.

KKR captain Dinesh Karthik won the toss and elected to field first. MI openers Surya Kumar Yadav continued his impressive form while opening while Evin Lewis also looked good. Piyush Chawla dismissed Evin Lewis with a nothing delivery. At the end of 6 overs, Mumbai Indians scored 47 for 1.

After the powerplay overs, Surya Kumar Yadav was dismissed by Piyush Chawla for 36 runs. Ishan Kishan came to the crease and started to put pressure on KKR bowlers with big shots hitting Kuldeep Yadav for successive sixes. He smashed his half-century off 17 balls, added 82 runs for the third wicket. Kishan was dismissed for 61 runs off 21 balls.

Hardik Pandya came to the crease and scored quick fire 19 off 13 balls. Rohit Sharma made 36 off 31 balls. Ben Cutting created lots of pressure on Kolkata Knight Riders bowlers with some big hitting scoring 24 off just 9 balls.

It was an amazing batting display by Mumbai Indians batsmen. Mumbai Indians posted a massive total of 210 for 6 in 20 overs. For KKR, Piyush Chawla picked 3 wickets but went for 48 runs. All the other bowlers also were smashed.

Chasing 211 to win, Kolkata Knight Riders lost the wicket of Sunil Narine in the very first over itself. Chris Lynn and Robin Uthappa added 28 runs for a 2nd wicket. From 32 to 1, Kolkata Knight Riders lost wickets at regular intervals which made the chase very tough. At the end of 6 overs, KKR scored 47 for 2. After that none of their top batsmen could score runs and be dismissed cheaply.

Chris Lynn and Nitish Rana scored 21 runs each respectively. Apart from that none of KKR batsmen could score runs easily. Mumbai Indians bowled out KKR for 108 runs and won the match by a massive 102 runs.

MI 210 for 6 in 20 overs ( Ishan Kishan 62, Surya Kumar Yadav 36, Rohit Sharma 36, Piyush Chawla 3/48) beat

KKR 108 in 18.1 overs ( Chris Lynn 21, Nitish Rana 21, Tom Curran 18, Hardik Pandya 2/16, Krunal Pandya 2/12) by 102 runs.

KKR captain Dinesh Karthik said: 200 plus totals is a big ask. It was a good batting wicket. We dropped catches and also lost wickets in the powerplay overs. As a captain, I need to tell the boys that need to raise our levels. Our batting let down us in today’s match.

MI captain Rohit Sharma said: It was a totally dominating performance by our team. The batting clicked today. Ishan Kishan batted superbly with his aggressive batting and changed the momentum of our batting. The pitch was not easy to bat as the ball was sticking in. Ben Cutting also played an important knock which helped us for posting a massive total. It”s so tough to make a comeback after such a slow start.

Man of the match said Ishan Kishan said: I had chat with my skipper and he told that go, back your natural game. I just wanted to keep the ball hitting and put pressure on KKR bowlers. It was an important knock for me and wants to continue the momentum.

With this win, Mumbai Indians move to 4th place with 10 points. Last time these two teams met at Wankedhe Stadium, Mumbai Indians defeated KKR by 13 runs.

Delhi Daredevils will face Sunrisers Hyderabad in tomorrow”s match at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, New Delhi.
