IPL 2018: Royal Challengers Bangalore register their 3rd win of the season, beat MI by 14 runs

Royal Challengers Bangalore defended the total of 168 to beat Mumbai Indians in the 31st match of VIVO IPL 2018 played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore just finished a few moments ago. Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to field first. Vohra, Kohli, Brendon McCullum and de Grandhomme quickfire knock helped RCB post 167 for 7 in 20 overs. While chasing, Mumbai Indians could not chase the modest total.

Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to field first. Manan Vohra and Quinton de Kock opened the innings for Royal Challengers Bangalore. Manan looked at aggressive touch hitting JP Duminy for 21 runs while de Kock struggled to time the ball. South African de Kock was dismissed for 7 runs.

At the end of 6 overs, Royal Challengers Bangalore scored 43 for 1.  After the powerplay overs, Vohra continued his aggressive intent. Mayank Markande dismissed dangerous Manan Vohra for 45 runs. After that Brendon McCullum and captain, Virat Kohli played with positive intent smashing the Mumbai Indians bowlers. Both of them took charge with their aggressive hitting. Brendon McCullum was brilliantly run out by Hardik Pandya for 37 runs.

Hardik Pandya took wickets of Mandeep Singh, captain Virat Kohli, Washington Sundar in one over. New Zealand Collin de Grandhomme scored hit a six off a no-ball from McClenaghan and then a six off the free hit in the final over. de Grandhomme finished with a quick fire 23 off 10 balls with 3 sixes.

Royal Challengers Bangalore posted 167 for 7 in 20 overs. For Mumbai Indians, Hardik Pandya finished with 3 for 28.

Chasing 168, Mumbai Indians lost an early wicket of Ishan Kishan by Tim Southee in the very first over itself. Umesh Yadav struck twice dismissing Surya Kumar Yadav and Captain Rohit Sharma in successive balls. At the end of 6 overs, Mumbai Indians scored 40 for 3.

After the powerplay overs, Pollard and Duminy added 26 runs for the 4th wicket before Mohammad Siraj dismissed Pollard for 13 runs. Hardik Pandya looked in aggressive touch and added 37 runs for the 5th wicket. JP Duminy was run out by Umesh Yadav.  Hardik and Krunal Pandya played with positive intent adding 56 runs for the 6th wicket.

With 30 runs required off last 2 overs, Mohammad Siraj bowled a brilliant 19th over and picked the wicket of Krunal Pandya for 23 runs off 19 balls. Hardik Pandya completed his half-century off 41 balls.

Hardik Pandya was dismissed in the last over. Ben Cutting hit scored 10 runs but could not help Mumbai Indians go past winning line.

Mumbai Indians scored 153 for 7 in 20 overs. For Royal Challengers Bangalore, Tim Southee, Mohammad Siraj and Umesh Yadav took 2 wickets each.

RCB 167 for 7 in 20 overs ( Manan Vohra 45, Brendon McCullum 37, Kohli 32, Grandhomme 23*, Hardik Pandya 3/28) beat

MI 153 for 7 in 20 overs ( Hardik Pandya 50, JP Duminy 23, Krunal Pandya 23, Tim Southee 2/25, Umesh Yadav 2/28) by 14 runs.

MI captain Rohit Sharma said: Disappointing to lose such a much. We need to blame ourselves for the defeat. It was not smart cricket from our batsmen. To restrict RCB to 167 was a good effort by our bowlers but could have restricted them to 10-15 less. Virat and McCullum knocks were important. We keep making silly mistakes.

RCB captain Virat Kohli said: We needed this win badly. Umesh Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Siraj, Tim Southee were brilliant. Defending 167 was not easy but told my bowlers to do the job and bowl according to the field. I am happy to earn two important points, would love to continue the winning momentum.

Man of the match Tim Southee: It was a great performance by our bowlers to defend 168. We needed to take wickets at regular intervals and was happy with my performance. The belief in the group for qualifying in the playoffs is still there. Collin de Grandhomme 24 runs in the last over gave us the momentum for 2nd innings.

When these two teams met last time in this IPL, Mumbai Indians defeated RCB by 46 runs.
