Indian skipper Virat Kohli has lost four straight games as India’s Test skipper after his recent loss against England in the first Test in Chennai. This is his longest losing streak since becoming the captain of India’s red-ball side. Meanwhile, he has found a friend in former England skipper Kevin Pietersen who is backing him to stay as the captain of the Test side despite the recent poor run.

In his column for Betway, Pietersen has backed Kohli to stay as the captain saying that he does not expect things to change.

“I absolutely don’t expect things to change, but it is impossible to avoid the continuing debate around the Indian Test match captaincy. Virat Kohli has now lost four consecutive Test matches as skipper, and has Ajinkya Rahane, who just led India to a famous series win in Australia, in his side,” Pietersen wrote in his blog for Betway.

Meanwhile, Ajinkya Rahane’s recent success against Australia in Australia is making people choose him over Kohli as the Indian test skipper. Rahane is still unbeaten as India’s Test captain. Also, he only plays red-ball cricket for India for the last couple of years, which is why he has the backing.

Kevin Pietersen further said that it is a distraction that Virat Kohli needs to avoid and concentrate on his game.

Virat Kohli is Capable of Winning Test Matches For India: Kevin Pietersen

“On social media, every radio station, every television channel and every news channel, there are very deep discussions around what should happen. Captaining your country is very difficult and unfortunately, this is the nature of the beast. It’s one more distraction that Kohli doesn’t need but he is, of course, capable of leading his side to a victory in the second Test to quieten things down a bit,” said Pietersen.

Virat Kohli is India’s most successful Test skipper having registered 33 victories in 57 matches surpassing MS Dhoni’s record. However, he has lost his last four Tests as captain which has, in turn, affected India’s ranking in the WTC points table.
