IPL 2020: KKR Might Have Sacked Dinesh Karthik As Captain: Aakash Chopra

Former India opener Aakash Chopra feels that Dinesh Karthik was sacked as the KKR skipper. Last night when Kolkata Knight Riders took on the Mumbai Indians last night at Abu Dhabi we noticed a changed in the KKR skipper. It was Eoin Morgan leading in place of Dinesh Karthik as earlier that day KKR made an announcement stating that Dinesh Karthik has handed over the captaincy to Eoin Morgan so that he can concentrate on his batting.

This news was a shock to many as Kolkata Knight Riders weren’t in a bad position in this year’s IPL.  They had won four matches and merely lost just three games in the season. Which is why Aakash Chopra feels Dinesh Karthik was sacked as the KKR captain as he will definitely not quit as captain midway through the tournament.

No player leaves the team halfway: Aakash Chopra

In Aakash Chopra’s recent episode of his YouTube Channel ‘Cricket Aakash,’ he put out his views stating that KKR have actually sacked Dinesh Karthik as the skipper of their side mid-season. Even though the official communication says Dinesh Karthik himself quit but Chopra feels that was said just so it looks good to the outer world.

KKR sacked their captain mid-season, although not sacked as per the official communication which always says that the player himself is saying that he does not want to captain. We can all take this at face value but no player leaves the team halfway, that is what I feel. I have not spoken to Karthik but the news that has come is that he has said that he doesn’t want to captain,” Aakash Chopra told in his Youtube Channel.

Aakash Chopra further went on to add how the side’s performance has been good as they’ve won four out of the seven matches they played this season. Also talking about Dinesh Karthik’s batting how the latter had looked in good shape especially in that match against Kings XI Punjab where Karthik notched up a fifty.

Amid all this, Aakash Chopra also didn’t understand Karthik left the captaincy midway when they were performing well enough in the tournament.

Although to be honest, the team’s performance had been good. They had won four out of their seven matches and they had to win only four of their remaining seven before this match to qualify. And then in the batting as well Karthik had played one good knock where he had scored a half-century against KXIP and that too at a very good pace. Then why did he leave the captaincy, I don’t know,” he added.
