It was an historic day for Bangladesh Cricket as they reached climbed up their best ever rankings of number 6 surpassing Sri Lanka according to latest ICC ODI team rankings announced today. The Tigers defeated New Zealand by 5 wickets to register their first ever win over blackcaps in the last match of tri nation tournament held in Dublin, Ireland. Their performance in limited overs format for the past 2 years has been brilliant beating top nations like Pakistan, India, South Africa.

Bangladesh have played a total of 328 matches winning 104, losing 218, Tied 0, No result 6. It is a great achievement for minnows to make a name for themselves. They have been grouped with Australia, England and New Zealand. From May 2014 and 2016 won 18 out of 28 completed games including reaching quarter finals stage.

This team were 7th place on May 1st only 3 points behind Pakistan but with the win over New Zealand in Dublin, Bangladesh have gone past over Full members like Sri Lanka, Pakistan and West Indies.

Between May 2016 and 2017, Bangladesh has performed well winning 6 out of 14 matches. They drew the series against Sri Lanka in their own den. After 10 years, they have qualified for the prestigious Champions Trophy tournament.

The top position is occupied by South Africa who is currently playing with England in a three match ODI series. AB de Villiers lost the first ODI match by 72 runs to trail the series by 0-1. Australia regains the second spot. They need to play their best cricket if they have to win the Champions Trophy for the third time.

India who reached London today will enter the Champions Trophy as the number 3rd ranked team. They are the defending Champions of this tournament that they won in 2013. They are on 117. New Zealand who won the tournament is currently on 4th position with 114 points. Their only win in this tournament came in 2000.

England who have improved after the 2015 World Cup exit in group stage are currently playing the 3 match ODI series against South Africa is at 5th position. They are looking one of the strong favourites to win this year’s CT 2017 title.

Both Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are on the same points but due to decimal points, the Men in Green have moved up to sixthafter Bangladesh won their first match against New Zealand in ODI matches.

Pakistan will enter the Champions Trophy tournament as the least ranked team. They are on 8th place with 88 points. Pakistan was knocked out in the first round during the 2013 edition. They might not qualify for World Cup 2019 directly if they don’t perform well. West Indies are placed on 9th ranked with 79 points and they too might not qualify for World Cup 2019.

The last place is occupied by Afghanistan who are currently on 52 points.
