Ranji Trophy 2017/18, 4th Round: Pujara & Mayank Agarwal light up day 2 with double centuries

The second day saw Mayank Agarwal scoring a brilliant 219 not out. Also, Indian test specialist Pujara also scored a double century. In other matches defending Champions Gujarat, Kerala, Mumbai have bowled out their oppositions.

Starting the second day on 272 for 3, Hyderabad made 220 runs more declaring the first innings on 474 for 9. Railways ended the second day on 35 for 1. Uttar Pradesh began the day on 270 for 8 and added 21 runs before being bowled out for 291. For Delhi, Gambhir scored 86 runs. Delhi ended day 2 on 228 for 6.

Starting the day on 117 for 0, Karnataka openers Mayank Agarwal and R Samarth added 259 runs for the first wicket. Mayank remained not out on 219 which helped the visitors end the day on 461 for 2.

Saurashtra began the day on 341 for 5. Pujara showed his class with bat and scored a double century. Saurashtra declared their innings on 553 for 9. Jharkhand lost 2 wickets for 52 runs at the end of day 2.  It was a poor batting display by Jammu and Kashmir batsmen to be dismissed for 173. Bandeep Singh scored 39 runs and for Kerala Jalaj Saxena, S Joseph and Akshay were the wicket-takers. In their second innings, Kerala were 45 for 1.

Haryana began the day on 0 for 1. The Gujarat bowlers did not allow the Haryana batsmen to score runs freely and bowled out for 157. Himanshu Rana and RP Sharma scored some runs for the visitors. At the end of day 2, the defending Champions were 110 for 2.

Madhya Pradesh started the second day on 219 for 5. Harpreet Singh scored 88 runs which MP to post 321. In their first Andhra Pradesh struggled scoring 177 for 5. Hanuma Vihari scored 77, B Sumanth 57.

The hosts Baroda started day 2 on 304 for 5. Lower order batsmen contributed important runs and posted a massive total of 521 all out. In their first innings, Tripura ended day 2 on 63 for 1.

Starting the 2nd day on 264 for 6, Mumbai added 25 runs and lost the rest 4 wickets, dismissed for 289. Odisha lost 4 early wickets for 2 runs. Biplab Samantray scored a half-century but the hosts were bowled out for 145. In their second innings, Mumbai has lost 3 wickets for 58 runs.

Bengal could not add many runs as the hosts were dismissed for 419. Himachal Pradesh is struggling at the present moment with 163 for 5.

Punjab began the second day on 57 for 1. The youngsters Anmolpreet Singh is still not out on 171 while Gurkeerat Singh Mann scored 111. The visitors ended the day on 481 for 6.

Vidarbha scored 100 runs for the loss of 7 wickets and was dismissed for 359. Services ended the 2nd day on 141 for 4.

Group A

Railways vs. Hyderabad ( Karnail Singh Stadium, Delhi)

Hyderabad began the second day on 272 for 3. Rayadu scored a century and helped the visitors post a massive total of 474 for 9 declared. In their first innings, Railways ended the second day on 35 for 1.

Railways 35 for 1 in 13 overs trail Hyderabad 474 for 9 in 148.4 overs  ( Ambati Rayadu 112, B Sandeep 82, Ravi Teja 70, K Thakur 3/96, MN Rao 3/76) by 439 runs.

Uttar Pradesh vs. Delhi ( Palam A Stadium, Delhi)

Starting the second day on 270 for 8, Uttar Pradesh added 21 runs as they were dismissed for 291. In their first innings, Delhi scored 228 for 6. Gambhir made 86 and Shorey remained not out on 65.

Karnataka 461 for 2 in 125 overs ( Mayank Agarwal 219*, R Samarth 129, Karun Nair 56*) lead  Maharashtra 245 in 55 overs ( Rahul Tripathi 120, NS Sheikh 69, Vinay Kumar 6/59) by 216 runs

Group B

Saurashtra vs. Jharkhand ( Rajkot)

The hosts Saurashtra began the day on 341 for 5. Pujara scored 204 while CS Jani made 108 to help them post a massive total of 553 for 9. Jharkhand has lost 2 wickets for 52 runs.

Jammu and Kashmir started the day on 16 for 0. From 139 for 5, the visitors lost 5 quick wickets and were bowled out for 173. Jalaj Saxena, S Joseph picked 3 wickets each while Akshay was the top wicket taker with 4 wickets. Kerala ended the 2nd day on 45 for 1.

Haryana began the day on 0 for 1. Apart from Himanshu Rana and RP Sharma none of Haryana batsmen were able to score runs. The visitors were dismissed for 157. In their second innings, Gujarat scored 110 for 2 with Panchal scoring 62 not out.

Andhra Pradesh vs. Madhya Pradesh ( Vizinagaram)

Madhya Pradesh began the day on 219 for 5. The lower order batsmen added 101 runs as MP were bowled out for 321. In their first innings, Andhra Pradesh struggled with 177 for 5.

Baroda began the day on 304 for 5. It was a great batting display by the lower order batsmen which helped the hosts to post a massive 521. Tripura ended the 2nd day on 63 for 1.

Odisha vs. Mumbai ( KIIT, Bhuvneshwar)

Starting the 2nd day on 264 for 6, the last four batsmen could only add 25 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. Mumbai were dismissed for 289. Odisha started off to a pathetic start losing the first 4 wickets for 2 runs. Biplab Samantray scored a good half-century but rest of Odisha batting failed to contribute and was bowled out for 145. Shardul Thakur and Dhawal Kulkarni picked 2 wickets each, Gohil and Nayar took 3 wickets.

In their second innings, Mumbai were 58 for 3.

Mumbai 289 in 99.5 overs ( Prithvi Shaw 105, Rahane 49, Mohanty 4/51) and 58 for 3 in 16 overs ( Prithvi Shaw 46,) lead Odisha 145 in 50. 5 overs ( Biplab Samantray 72*, Santanu Mishra 36, Gohil 3/26, Nayar 3/27) by 202 runs.

Group D

Bengal vs. Himachal Pradesh ( Eden Garden’s, Kolkata)

Bengal began the second day on 306 but could not add many runs as they were bowled out for 419. Himachal Pradesh is struggling with 163 for 5 wickets.

Punjab played with positive intent and scored 481 for 6. Anmolpreet Singh is still not out on 171 and Mann scored 111.

Vidarbha captain Faiz Faizal won the toss and bat first. Faiz Faizal played captains knock of 128 not out and helped hosts to post 259 for 3.
