With the limited-overs done and dusted, the focus shifts on the high-profile four-match Border-Gavaskar Test series which gets underway on December 17. Leading to the series, India’s head coach Ravi Shastri has revealed the name of the third pacer who will pair up with Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah in the absence of injured Ishant Sharma.

With Ishant and Bhuvneshwar Kumar injured and out of the tour, India was always under fire with their third fast bowler in Australian conditions. But it seems like the management has already made their mind on the same. Australia cricket great Ian Chappell has revealed that Ravi Shastri told him the name of the third pacer the Indian team.

Umesh Yadav likely to get the nod – Ravi Shastri

Chappell, who has been following the tour keenly revealed that Ravi Shastri has reportedly fixated on Umesh Yadav as India’s third pacer alongside Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami.

“I was having a drink with Ravi (Shastri) the other day and he told me that probably (Umesh) Yadav will get the nod as the third pacer,” Chappell was quoted as saying in Scroll.

Meanwhile, the visitors have plenty to choose from. While Bumrah and Shami are obvious choices, Umesh Yadav will be competing with Navdeep Saini and Mohammed Siraj for the third spot. As it looks it like Umesh will get the nod and Ian Chappell believes if India can put on 300 runs on the board, they have every chance of winning in Adelaide due to the presence of Bumrah and Shami.

“India have two smart quicks in Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami. If you ask me, if the team batting first scores 300, you are on your way to winning the Test match at the Adelaide,” Chappell added.

The first of the four-match Test series which will be a day-night game starts from December 17 at the Adelaide Oval.
