Robin Uthappa records a special message for his fans

The emergence of IPL has propelled the growth of T20 cricket in India so much that the states in India have started their own T20 leagues taking a game to every nook and corner. Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are the pioneers in this venture with Karnataka Premier League (KPL) and Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) making their presence felt already.

The ongoing Karnataka Premier League is not seeing one of the best state”s cricketer in recent times Robin Uthappa. As his fans were left scratching their heads, the right hander posted a video on Twitter explaining why he has decided to opt out.

Robin and his wife Sheetal are expecting their first baby very soon. They got hitched on March 2, in a Christian wedding ceremony. Robin had proposed Sheetal on his 30th birthday. Coincidentally, they share their engagement anniversary with Yuvi and Hazel and wedding anniversary with Dhawal Kulkarni and Shraddha Kharpude.

Robin said in the video, “Sheetal and I are expecting our first one and season begins next month so I want to spend as much time as I can with her, preparing the home for our baby.”

Robin also cited fitness as one of the reasons why he is not playing. He wants to work on his fitness to keep himself fit for the entire season. He quoted, “The season is long and hectic and I want to keep myself fit so I can go through the entire season and be injury-free.”

The 31-year old batsman has played 46 ODIS and 13 T20Is for India. He has been out of the scheme of things of late. Uthappa made his First-Class debut for Karnataka in 2002-03 as a 16-year-old and has played 101 first-class matches for Karnataka scoring 6865 runs including 18 centuries and 33 half-centuries.
