Sandeep Patil slams Yo-Yo Test; Here is what he has to say

The Yo-Yo Test has really turned out to be a nightmare for the cricketers to cement their spot in the Indian squads. While certain players are clearing it off with ease, few players are really finding it tough to make it to the squad.

Meanwhile, former BCCI selector Sandeep Patil lashed out at BCCI”s system for considering this test as a criteria to represent in blues. “Look, I am not against fitness being a criteria,” Patil told to Mid-day.

BCCI currently makes the players who are named in the respective squads to appear for this test at NCA, Bangalore. The current benchmark to clear yo-yo is 16.1. Manish Pandey and Virat Kohli are reported to be the ones to top the tables.

What is Yo-Yo Test And Why it is so Important in Indian Cricket

“But I find it very absurd that a player is dropped for failing the Yo-Yo test after he has been picked in the squad. In this way, you are disturbing the balance of the team; you are playing with the career of a cricketer,” Sandeep Patil added.

Sandeep was replaced by the current selector MSK Prasad in 2016. Sandeep Patel also coached the Kenya cricket team in the past.

The former cricketer Sandeep Patil also added “The toughest competition is T20 cricket and throughout the tournament (Indian Premier League) the players have not suffered any problems,” Patil said.“Suddenly, they are out. What I also find absurd and wrong is that the trainer will decide on these matters. Has the trainer become a selector?” he said.

It is to be noted that Mohammed Shami, Sanju Samson and Ambati Rayudu failed the test which eventually made them miss their flights.

“Before each selection meeting, every selector was given a list of players who were available, fit and unfit. The selection meeting used to take place after that”, Sandeep said.

Sandeep also said that in his times only the final decision was left to the selectors alone and there weren”t any indulgence from the coach and the skipper. It will be really interesting how BCCI would respond to the comments from Sandeep.
