India commemorated their 71st Independence Day yesterday as on this day in 1947 India achieved freedom from the British. Wishes from all corners of the world flooded in, however, Pakistan’s former captain Shahid Afridi’s message acquired a lot of attention.

India and Pakistan celebrate their Independence Day 24 hours apart as Pakistan celebrated their Independence Day on 14th of August.

The former Pakistani all-rounder urged to all the people from both the countries to work towards nonviolence and achieve harmony. He tweeted on the eve of India’s Independence Day, “”Happy Independence Day India! No way to change neighbors; let’s work towards peace, tolerance, and love. Let humanity prevail,” His tweet was retweeted a number of times and was liked by more than 13000 people.

Virat Kohli recently presented a bat to Afridi’s foundation. The India team also presented him a signed jersey post his retirement in last April. It also had a message from the Indian captain quoting, “To Shahid Bhai, best wishes, always a pleasure playing against you.”
