Windies will play the world XI on May 31 at Lords as a fundraiser for the hurricane-affected stadiums at West Indies. It is to be noted that five stadiums in West Indies need funds for the renovation work as they were devastated by hurricane Irma and Maria.

Windies announced their squad a couple of days ago where Russell received his International call after two years. Carlos Braithwaite will lead the Windies side for this T20 match.

Eoin Morgan was announced the captain of World XI long back. Now, three other players have been added to the squad. Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik and Thisara Perera will be a part of the World XI under the English skipper.

All the three players tasted the T20 World cup success as Afridi and Malik had memorable moments at England when they won 2009 T20 WC. Perera was a part of 2014 winning squad. The rest of the squad is expected to be announced very soon.

Afridi, one of the best all-rounders in the shortest formats of the game spoke to the media. He said “I am humbled to have been selected for such a noble cause. Cricket is one big family and no matter how hard and tough we play against each other, there is tremendous comradery within the group. As such, it is our moral and professional obligation to stand up and support whenever and wherever we can, to assist our members, colleagues and cricket fans. “

Shoaib Malik, the only player who is currently active from the 1990″s also expressed his love to represent the World XI.

“As much as the chance of figuring in such a select group, I also see this as an opportunity to contribute to a meaningful cause. We have all heard of the damage caused by the two hurricanes in the West Indies last year and it is really good to see so many cricketers come together for the objective of raising funds to repair the damage to cricket venues,” Malik said.
