This Indian heartthrob to play Kapil Dev in 1983 WC

In the last year or two connection between cricket and Bollywood has come close. Biopics on cricketers were hits at the box office. It all started from Azhar (the biopic on former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin). The next most anticipated biopic was Dhoni”s biopic MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, the journey of a TC to TC, a ticket checker to test captain. The latest biopic to be released was Master Blaster”s Sachin: A Million Dreams.

Now the filmmaker Kabir Khan has decided to wind the clock 34 years back when India won the 1983 World cup. He is planning to portray the moment of glory in movie theaters by launching a film which is tentatively named “World Cup 1983”

Sushant Singh Rajput did an amazing job playing MSD on screens. Reports say the role of Kapil Dev in all likelihood is going to be given to Arjun Kapoor. The film will be written by National Award-winning director Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan. It’ll be co-produced by Phantom Films and the founder and managing director of the Celebrity Cricket League (CCL), Vishnu Vardhan Induri. However, there are rumors that Ranveer Singh and Hrithik Roshan are also in contention for the role.

“A mammoth event is being planned to announce the film on September 27. The makers hope that the Indian players who brought the cup home will grace the occasion
.” a source said. The actor will be announced at the event.

India started the 1983 World Cup as underdogs. After beating West Indies in the first match their confidence soared sky high. Throughout the course of the world cup, India found themselves in trying circumstances on few occasions but managed to fight their way out of it. A notable instance being reduced to 17/5 against Zimbabwe and then Kapil Dev rising to the occasion and scoring 175.

India beat England comfortable in the semi-final of the world cup. They were facing West Indies in the final. After being all out for 183 it looked like a cakewalk for Windies but Indian bowlers struck at regular intervals and bowled out WI for 140 thus winning by 43 runs and capturing the moment of glory.
