VIDEO: Mustafizur Rahman rattled Kiwis, registered a 5-wicket haul: Mustafizur Rahman, the canny southpaw from Bangladesh shone today against the table-toppers of Group 1, New Zealand at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. He produced the best bowling figures in this tournament as well as his personal best – 5/22.
The 20-year-old left arm pacer took the wickets of Henry Nicholls, Kane Williamson, Grant Elliott, Mitchell Santner and Nathan McCullum in an inspired spell of pace bowling. Even a last-ball six by Mitchell McClenaghan did not prevent the left-arm seamer from registering the best figures (4-0-22-5) in this edition of the World T20, bettering James Faulkner’s efforts (5-27) against Pakistan on Friday.
Bangladesh were chasing again, having restricted New Zealand to 145 for 8 on Eden Gardens – a similar kind of track to the one India had posted the same total on Bangalore against them. But they were thumped by the Kiwi bowlers as they fell short by a huge margin of 75 runs. All Mustafizur’s fine efforts with the ball went in vain.
Winless Bangladesh will go back home and they have quite a few things to sort out including the allegations of illegal actions on their couple of bowlers.
