What can make a cricketer prouder than his children watching him on TV and recognizing him? Well, Shikhar Dhawan felt mighty proud yesterday when his son Zoraver saw him on TV and recognized him when the national anthem was being played.
On Wednesday when teams lined up for the national anthems in Pune, Zoraver was watching the match on his TV set back home. When camera flashed on Indian team he started searching for his dad Shikhar. When Shikhar came on screen he shouted, “Woohooo! Is that Papa?” Someone in the background (presumably his mother) said, “Yup!”
Dhawan posted on Instagram, ” Dil bhar aaya video dekhke. Jis tareeke se vo mujhe dhoondh raha hai. wish Zoraver ko gale laga sakta mai aur khoob pyaar de sakta. Mera pyaar aur duayein hamesha mere bacchon ke saath hai. Love u all”
(Was overwhelmed watching this video. The way he was searching me. I wish I could hug him. My affection and blessings are always there with my kids. Love you all)
Dhawan scored 68 with the bat in India’s 6-wicket victory. He was making a comeback to the side this series after long. In August he left Sri Lanka tour midway because of his mother’s ill health. He opted out of Australia ODI series to be there with his ailing wife.
Dhawan has had a very successful year with the bat across all formats. He was leading run scorer in Champions Trophy. In Sri Lanka he made a comeback to the test team and scored 190 at Galle,119 at Pallekele and 132* at Rangiri Stadium in Dambulla in ODIS.
Dhawan’s 2017 continues to go from good to best. He has enjoyed a purple patch with the bat of late. This was much needed for him after a dismal couple of years in international cricket. He would hope to carry on his good form in South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia next year as his home record has been brilliant but overseas record has been questionable.
