The All India Senior Selection Committee recently announced the squads for the upcoming series against Bangladesh. The side, led by regular captain Rohit Sharma, has been picked on expected lines with no real new inclusions.
Team India have been performing consistently well in the longest format of the game in recent times. Much of the credit for India’s good performance in Test cricket goes to former captain Virat Kohli.
Ajinkya Rahane, Ishant Sharma and Wriddhiman Saha were considered the pillars of Indian cricket when Virat was the captain. But now the Indian team is moving towards the future and recently the Indian team has been announced for the Test series against Bangladesh.
In this article, we will look at three players who should have got a chance in the squad for the Test series against Bangladesh.
#1 Sarfaraz Khan
Mumbai’s run machine Sarfaraz Khan has been in unbelievable form in domestic cricket for the past 2 years. It was almost certain that Sarfaraz would get a chance in the Indian team for the Test series against Bangladesh, but Sarfaraz was not included in the Indian team.
It is believed that Sarfaraz did not get a chance as the middle order includes Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Cheteshwar Pujara and Shubham Gill. It will be interesting to see how long Sarfaraz will have to wait for an opportunity in the Indian team.
#2 Hanuma Vihari
Hanuma Vihari has played very few matches in the last four years since he made his Test debut for the Indian team in 2018. Although Vihari has failed to make a big scores during this time, his innings in Sydney will always be remembered by cricket lovers.
With Ajinkya Rahane not included in the squad, everyone expected Vihari to get a consistent chance in the final XI but he has been dropped from the squad for the series against Bangladesh. There is a possibility that Vihari has to lose his place in the team due to the inclusion of veteran player Cheteshwar Pujara in the squad.
#3 Mayank Agarwal
Mayank Agarwal has also not been included in the Indian squad for the series against Bangladesh. Mayank was considered India’s premier opener for the past few years, but KL Rahul‘s brilliant form has forced him to lose his place in the team.
Mayank was included in the squad for the only Test against England after IPL 2022, replacing the injured Rahul, but was not considered for the series against Bangladesh. Looking at the competition in the current India team, the possibility of Mayank’s return is also considered very low.
