Sam Curran with a record-breaking bid of INR 18.50 crores has gone back to the same franchise where he began his IPL career with the Punjab Kings formerly known as Kings XI Punjab. Now the Englishman has surpassed Chris Morris at INR 16.25 crores as the most expensive player ever bought in the IPL auction.

The all-rounder will add a lot of value to this Kings squad which already has players like Liam Livingstone, Jonny Bairstow and Kagiso Rabada. Let’s look at three reasons why Curran is a great buy for the franchise:

#1 Gives them the necessary balance to the playing 11

Punjab Kings in the last few editions have struggled with playing a settled 11 as they would be unable to play more than five bowlers. However, the likes of all-rounders like Liam Livingstone and now Sam Curran will allow them to play a balanced team with several quality bowling options within their ranks.

It will give them the necessary depth in their batting which often has cost their games and put pressure on their top order.

#2 Adds quality to their bowling arsenal

The Punjab Kings have bowlers like Kagiso Rabada, Arshdeep Singh and Rahul Chahar. Now add Sam Curran to this list. Since his return to the England team after injury and improving his skills in the death overs will allow someone like Kagiso Rabada to be an enforcer at the start of the innings with the new ball.

Both Arshdeep and Curran have proved themselves as quality death bowlers at the T20 World Cup in Australia. The franchise’s bowling attack looks much more well-rounded and complete as they have quality and experienced bowlers to bowl in all different phases of the game.

#3 Long-term Investment

Historically, the Punjab Kings have not been a team that does a great job of planning for the future. The arrival of Sam Curran, though, might well reverse that pattern. Even though he is only 24 years old, he has already made a strong impression in all gaming types. He appears to have what it takes to one day dominate Twenty20 cricket.

He has the ability to start bowling and finish at the end. He also has an excellent power-hitting game and can drop anchor depending on the circumstances of the game. Curran may eventually show himself to be a viable captaincy candidate.

As a result of his prior experience playing for England under Trevor Bayliss, the new PBKS coach, he gets along well with him.
