48-year-Old Pravin Tambe Picked By TKR In 2020 CPL Draft

Pravin Tambe, the 48-year-old leg-spinner from Mumbai, has revealed that Shah Rukh Khan-owned franchise Trinbago Knight Riders has picked him in the draft for this year’s Caribbean Premier League.

Meanwhile, Tambe has had a rollercoaster ride so far. He has featured for Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Lions franchise in the IPL. Kolkata Knight Riders picked him up in this year’s auction but IPL governing council barred him from participating for playing in foreign leagues.

While talking to Indian Express, Tambe said that he’s willing to take all the precautions needed to play in the tournament as BCCI doesn’t allow him to feature in the domestic leagues.

”I am fit and since the BCCI does not allow me to take part in its competitions why shouldn’t I play in other leagues. I am eligible to play outside and got picked by TKR and will also take all necessary precautions and follow protocols before going there”, said Tambe.

The leg spinner was purchased by Kolkata Knight Riders for 20 lakhs during the December auction but the IPL Governing Council disqualified him for his T10 League stint in the UAE in 2018. As only retired players are allowed to feature in foreign leagues.

Pravin Tambe said despite the lockdown in Mumbai, he’s been training hard to improve his fitness and is really looking forward to playing in the Caribbean.

“I am working on my physical fitness at home and so yes definitely looking forward to this edition,” he added.

The Mumbai cricketer could be the oldest cricketer to feature in the CPL. He now has to wait for the No Objection Certificate from BCCI before joining the Trinidad based franchise.

In 2018, Tambe retired to take part in the T10 League but withdrew his retirement to play in the Mumbai T20 League. Later, he also registered for the 2020 IPL Auction where he got picked by KKR but was reprimanded and withdrawn from the side.

Tambe has bagged 28 wickets in his 33 match IPL career will soon feature in the 2020 CPL. The tournament will take place between August 18 and September 10 behind closed doors in Trinidad and Tobago.
