Due to the commencement of the cash-rich league, every year we see a plethora of players emerging from the Indian Premier League (IPL). IPL has provided the right platform for the players to perform as well as showcase their talent against the best players in the world.

Indian players emerge every year and if they perform extraordinarily well, they get a chance in the Indian team as well. Today we’ll see players who might not be able to make a comeback to India’s T20 side.

5 cricketers who might not return to India’s T20 squad

1) Manish Pandey

Manish Pandey is one of the most unlucky players of this generation. He had the technical ability that is required at the international level and has proved it on a couple of occasions but his inconsistent performances both for India and his IPL franchises are reasons why he has been in and out of the squad.

With better alternatives, such as the likes of Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav, it is highly unlikely that he’ll be making a comeback to the Indian side anytime soon. He is not been having a good season till now with the Lucknow Super Giants and has also been dropped from the playing XI during this season.

2) Ravichandran Ashwin

Veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is one of the most lethal spinners of all forms of the game. He has the ability to change the tide of the match by using the right ball for the right man. He studies and reads the game well and knows what tactic to use for what batsman

Even though his place in the Indian Test side is all but certain, he is not likely to return to the T20I squad for India anytime soon. He was picked for the Indian side for the World Cup because of the injury to young spinner Washington Sundar.

3) Vijay Shankar

All-rounder Vijay Shankar was drafted into the Indian side as a potential replacement for Hardik Pandya. He went for the 2019 ICC World Cup in England but failed to replicate what he has been doing in the domestic circuit over the years.

The ongoing edition of the IPL provided him with a good platform to redeem himself. However, he has failed to live up to the expectations and has been dropped as well from the Gujarat Titans team more often than not.

With the likes of Venkatesh Iyer, who have been doing a better job in both the Indian and the domestic circuit, the chances of Vijay Shankar getting an opportunity look pretty bleak.

4) Varun Chakravarthy

The mystery spinner that India was so destined for was Varun Chakravarthy. He hasn’t lived up to the expectations or even tried to be on the same level in comparison to other spinners of the Indian team or the other mystery spinners around the world of cricket.

With Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravi Bishnoi doing a great job for their respective IPL franchises and are in the race for the Purple Cap, Varun needs to work a lot on his bowling and become a better mystery spinner that can help his side.

Fitness is another concern for him that has kept him out not only from the Indian side but from the Kolkata Knight Riders side as well.

5) Dinesh Karthik

Veteran wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik is one of the most unlucky cricketers, who had the ability but got very few chances for the Indian side. India had MS Dhoni as their wicketkeeper from 2005 to 2019 which meant very less playing opportunities for Dinesh.

When Dinesh Karthik won India the Nidahas Trophy in 2018, people thought he still has the ability to continue and perform for India after Dhoni retires. But that wasn’t meant to be as Rishabh Pant, the youngster got the opportunity to play ahead of him. He has been outstanding for RCB this season but has to do something extraordinary in order to be in the reckoning for that Indian team spot.

Even though the senior players of the squad might be busy for the SA and Ireland series, Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson are still likely to be selected over Dinesh Karthik because of the age factor.
