Social media has made the world a smaller place and have definitely dwindled the gap between the fans and the celebrities. Through social media, the fans can interact with their favourite cricketers from miles apart.

In the same way, the cricketers can take on the positive criticism from their fans and ignore the negativity from the haters. However, at times, the trolls and negativity on social media and often lead to a tiff between the two. Meanwhile, there has been a couple of times when cricketers came up with a savage reply to fans.

1. RAVICHANDRAN ASHWIN

India’s spin bowler Ravichandran Ashwin is known for his sarcastic and witty reply to his fans on social media. Back in 2015, a fan tweeted Ashwin about how there are better bowlers than him and that he is a waste in foreign conditions.

Ashwin didn’t take this tweet very kindly and responded to the fan saying that he should rather focus on his kid’s education rather than being concerned about his bowling.

Fan tweet: “you can show your performance only in Asia … Foreign condition you are waste there are many bowlers perform more that u”

Translation-  “Go and focus on getting your kids educated instead of worrying about me, did I ask your permission before deciding to take up cricket?”

2. MS DHONI

Former Indian captain MS Dhoni is one of the most popular cricketers in social media. MS Dhoni has amazed his fans throughout the years with his stellar performances on the field.

Back in 2012, a fan tweeted MS Dhoni about how he should know that the stalwart of Indian Cricket Team has a huge number of haters and him being the biggest hater. MS Dhoni replied the fan in a very sweet way saying,

The all-rounder from New Zealand, Jimmy Neesham has been in the news for quite some time now. Along with his outstanding performances on the field, Jimmy Neesham is quite popular among the fans off the field.

This is due to his witty tweets and interaction with his fans by his sarcastic comments. One such incident happened in the 2015 World Cup during the big India-Pakistan clash where a Pakistani fan was unhappy with a review going India’s way.

The swashbuckling Team India opener Rohit Sharma has won numerous matches for his team with his blistering performances. However, back in the days when Rohit Sharma’s wasn’t quite impressive with his performances on the field, the fans left no medium to troll the cricketer.

In one of the Q&A sessions on Twitter, Rohit Sharma was asked by a fan whether he prefers to be called ‘maggi man’ or ‘hitman’.

Instead of trolling the fan back, Rohit very maturely and calmly responded to his tweet saying that he prefers ‘Hitman’.

5. STUART BROAD

The Ashes series has always been one of the boldest and heated series in the history of cricket. There is always a huge banter between the fans of both Australia and England. However, along with the fans, the cricketers also express their views and opinions through the social media which often leads to disagreement among both the sides.

In 2013, an Australian fan tweeted Stuart Broad asking why can’t he walk when he is out. Stuart Broad was quite disappointed by the fan’s comment and replied saying that Australian cricketers don’t do the same as well and also called him a big hypocrite. It will go down as one of the savage replies by cricketers to the fans.
