It’s been 16 years since this man represented India on the international level: Kohli at first represented his team in an ODI match between Sri Lanka and India which was held at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on 18 August 2008. Kohli came to bat at No. 5 and could only score 12 runs before being dismissed by Nuwan Kulasekara, however, Kohli was not to be denied his promised outlook regardless of his powerless opening match.
He blossomed into the cornerstone of India’s batting and one of the most hostile and leading run-scoring batsmen on the global playing field. Over the more recent years Kohli has made a big chunk of records and has bagged many accolades enlisting his name in the annals of cricket.
5 Unbreakable Records Held by Virat Kohli:
Fastest to 10,000 ODI runs:
The fastest player to ever score 10,000 runs in One Day Internationals (ODIs) is former Indian team captain ‘Virat Kohli’ who reached this milestone in just his 205th innings during a match against West Indies played at Vishakapatnam.
Kohli has scored the fastest 10,000 runs considering both innings and time taken. He took 205 innings to cross the mark of 10,000 runs which is 54 innings lesser than Sachin Tendulkar and completed it within 10 years 67 days which is 257 days less than Rahul Dravid’s duration.
Most double centuries in Test cricket as an Indian captain:
Kohli is one of the best cricketers of the modern generation and his record in test cricket is impressive, as he scored seven double centuries wearing the captain’s armband for India. He made his debut at this level back in 2016 with a score of 200 against West Indies, followed by 211 against New Zealand and then 235 against England.
Then in 2017, he went on to amass 204 runs versus Bangladesh and shortly after that managed to achieve an even bigger feat by accumulating 213 runs over Sri Lanka’s bowlers. One remarkable performance during his career came when he made an unbeaten 254 from 365 balls against South Africa during a Test match held on December 16th,2019 which demonstrated how determined this man could be.
Most ODI centuries while chasing:
It is not for nothing that Virat Kohli is referred to as the “master of chase.” In trying circumstances, he has repeatedly guided India to victories through comebacks. India has only lost a game once when Virat Kohli finished a run chase unbeaten.
The dreams of winning a match are shared by an entire nation when Kohli is on the field. While pursuing an objective, Kohli has accumulated 5786 runs in 96 innings. The most by any batter in international cricket, Kohli has amassed 23 ODI hundreds when chasing.
Most runs in a single World Cup edition:
Like most ODI hundreds, Kohli even overtook Tendulkar’s record to emerge as the highest scoring batsman in a single World Cup. During the recently held 2023 World Cup, Delhi-born batter overshadowed the Master Blaster as he himself scored as many as 765 runs this year while the latter could manage only 673 runs during the 2003 World Cup.
Most international runs in a decade:
Thus, it is fair to say that Virat Kohli has taken complete control of the last decade. At the international level, he has scored as many as 20,688 runs in 380 matches and is the man who has an average above 50 in all three versions of the game.
He made 8818 runs in Test matches, 11036 runs in One Day Internationals and 2450 in T20 Internationals. Kohli has accumulated the most runs in one-day internationals and Twenty/20 internationals this decade, next only to Alastair Cook of England in tests.
