5 Possible replacements of Ravi Shastri as head Coach of Indian Team

After the World Cup 2019, the head of the coach of Indian Team Ravi Shastri has been given 45 days extension. The Board Cricket Control of India has received more 2000 applicants for the post of head coach of the Indian team.

Indian Cricket Team will take on West Indies in the first T20I match to be played at Florida, USA tomorrow. Many former Cricketers who have coached franchises will be challenging the post of head coach of the biggest post.

The newly formed Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising of Anushman Gaekwad, Kapil Dev will go with an open mind and interview the shortlisted candidates.

Virat Kohli wants Ravi Shastri to continue as the Indian coach. The shortlisted candidates are expected to be interviewed on 14th and 15th August.

Robin Singh

Robin Singh is the most reputed coaches in the world. He has confirmed to have applied for the position of head coach. The all-rounder has been doing coaching job after retiring from international cricket in 2001.

He began his coaching career with India Under 19 team and then went to coach on the Hong Kong team. In 2007, he was made the fielding coach of Indian national team.

Robin Singh has been the head coach of various franchises including Khulna Division, Uva, City Kaitak, Karakikudi Kaalai in TNPL, Kerala Kings, Northern Warriors and Barbados Tridents in CPL.

In IPL history, he began his coaching career with Deccan Chargers. Mumbai Indians took him as the head coach. He then went to become the batting coach of MI franchise after three years which have won a record 4 titles.

Tom Moody

Tom Moody is one of the foreigners to been have applied for the post of head coach. In 2005, Moody lost to Greg Chappell. He was appointed as the head coach of Sri Lankan Cricket team in 2005 and left the post after help Sri Lanka reach the finals of 2007 World Cup. The Australian coached Western Australia in Big Bash League during 2007 season.

In Indian Premier League history, Moody coached Kings XI Punjab in the inaugural edition in 2008. Under Moody, Western Australia qualified in KFC T20 Big Bash League. In December 2012, he decided to coach new IPL team Sunrisers Hyderabad. Under his coaching, Sunrisers Hyderabad reached the playoffs stage five times and became champions in 2016.

He was appointed as the International Director of Cricket for CPL and appointed as the Director of Cricket with Melbourne Renegades in 2014 in Big Bash League. In 2019 June, he was named as coach of Montreal Tigers franchise in Global T20 Canada 2019.

Mike Hesson

Mike Hesson is the former head coach of the New Zealand Cricket team. He has also confirmed to have applied for the post of coaching for the Indian team. Under his coaching, Kiwis reached the finals of World Cup 2015 for the first time. He was appointed as the head coach of New Zealand Cricket team on 20th July 2012. One of the successful coaches in their history, Hesson announced his resignation on 7th June 2018.

He coached Argentina and Kenya. In domestic Cricket, Hesson coached Otago. He was the longest-serving coach in New Zealand history. Under his coaching, Brendon McCullum and his side played fearless cricket and helped Kiwis to reach their first finals in World Cup history.

Hesson was appointed as the head coach of Kings XI Punjab franchise in IPL 2019. Under his coaching, KXIP did not qualify for the playoffs stage.

Mahela Jayawardene

Mahela Jayewardene has also applied for Indian team’s head coach. He is a former Sri Lankan cricketer who has been runners up in World Cup 2007 and 2011, also World Cup T20 2014 in Bangladesh, 2009 World T20 in England.
In 2015, he was appointed as the batting consultant for England Cricket team. He stayed with the England team for series against Pakistan in October in UAE till the end of World Cup 2016 held in India.

Mahela was appointed as the coach of Mumbai Indians franchise in 2017. He helped Mumbai Indians win the title in 2017 beating Rising Pune Supergiants in a thriller.

He was appointed the head coach of Khulna Titans in Bangladesh Premier League replacing Stuart Law. In 2019, he signed as coach of Mumbai Indians squad which won the title beating CSK by 1 run.

Lalchand Rajput

Lalchand Rajput is the 2nd Indian to have applied for the post of coaching of Indian Cricket Team. He was appointed as interim coach of Zimbabwe Cricket team. In August 2018, Rajput has appointed a full-time role.

He started his coaching career with Under 19 Cricket Team during India’s tour of England. Rajput was the manager of Indian senior Team which won the ICC World T20 in 2007.

Rajput was named as the head coach of the Afghanistan National Cricket Team in June 2016. Under his coaching, Afghanistan stunned West Indies to beat them by 63 runs. His contract with Afghanistan team ended in August 2017.

He was named as the head coach of Winnipeg Hawks side in Global T20 Canada 2019 tournament which is currently taking place.
