Top 7 IPL Stars That Fans Have Forgotten

The Indian Premier League (IPL) commenced in the year 2008. Until now, we’ve had 10 editions of IPL. The upcoming 11th season will kill off between Chennai Super Kings and Defending Champions Mumbai Indians. Here in this article, we look at Indian players who benefitted from IPL. These include players who are now part of a broader picture with the Indian cricket team.

1. Yuzvendra Chahal

The leg-spinner had a decent amount of wickets in the first class matches picking 22 wickets in 12 first-class matches, 18 in 13 List A matches and 18 in 21 domestic T20s. He started his IPL career in 2011 with Mumbai Indians after spending a fair amount of time on the bench. Today he is India’s frontline spinner in limited overs cricket.

2. Ravindra Jadeja

The bowling all-rounder R Jadeja wasn’t much known before his presence in the Shane Warne’s side Rajasthan Royals in the debut IPL season. Before his IPL debut, he managed just 354 in 12 first-class matches and had picked 20 wickets only. In List A career he had 107 runs in 15 matches with 18 wickets to his name. He produced wonderful innings against MI during his stay with RR that led his presence in team India squad.

3. Hardik Pandya

Another find out of the IPL, Hardik found his way into the IPL in 2015. Earlier, the all-rounder in his domestic matches did not even have bowled before IPL. His stats were 285 runs in 6 first-class matches and 164 runs in 4 List A matches.

4. Kuldeep Yadav

Another leg-spinner Kuldeep Yadav wasn’t much known before he started playing for Kolkata Knight Riders in 2014. However, he was made picked by Mumbai Indians twice. He had 29 wickets in 10 first-class matches, 7 wickets in 7 list A games and 31 wickets in 21 domestic T20 matches. Kuldeep learned a lot from the china-man bowler Brad Hogg who used to be a part of the KKR squad.

5. Jasprit Bumrah

One of the specialist death bowlers with an excellent ability to bowl yorkers at will. The pacer had not even played first-class or List A matches apart from 9 T20s with 10 wickets in his bank. Like Chahal, Bumrah also had to wait for his time before making his way to IPL in 2013.

6. Ravichandran Ashwin

The bowling all-rounder had plenty of domestic experience but was not available in the larger frame of things. He picked 80 wickets and scored 697 runs with one hundred and 3 fifties in 20 domestic matches that he had played before his IPL debut with Chennai Super Kings. Now he has 100 IPL wickets to his name and will the side for Kings XI Punjab in the upcoming season.
