8 Youngsters Who Can Be Tried On The West Indies Tour

The Indian Cricket Team will take on West Indies post World Cup. With youngsters giving breathtaking performances at the India A and domestic level, now seems the right time to throw them in the international arena.

With the World T20 scheduled for next year, the T20 series starting from 3rd August 2019 provides a chance for these top-quality youngsters who have proven their worth in IPL season 12.

Here We Look At 8 Youngsters Who Can Be Tried On The West Indies Tour

1. Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill is an impressive lad who has performed reasonably well in IPL season 12. He played for Kolkata Knight Riders and scored 296 runs from 14 matches with 4 half-centuries to his name. 

In ongoing West Indies, A tour, Gill scored 77 in the 3rd ODI match. While opening the innings, he hit 8 fours and 1 six during the innings and led India A to post a big total of 295 for 6. In the 2nd ODI also, Gill scored 62.

He has played so far 2 One day internationals for India during the series against New Zealand in New Zealand. In the last 2 matches, Shubman Gill was given a chance replacing Virat Kohli and scored just 16 runs. Those numbers don”t tell you the kind of talent this man possesses. 

His ability to big shots with ease makes him a dangerous batsman. He could be tried in the One-day international squad and groomed at number 4. West Indies tour is a big chance to prove his mettle and make a name for himself. 

2. Mayank Agarwal

Mayank Agarwal is another explosive batsman who could be tried in the West Indies limited-overs series. He was called as a replacement for Vijay Shankar in World Cup 2019 but could not get a game. 

The explosive opener has been a consistent performer for Karnataka and India A circuit. With Shikhar Dhawan unlikely to be fit for this tour, Mayank Agarwal could be given a chance in the T20I Series. 

Mayank did not have a great IPL 12 season for Kings XI Punjab with 332 runs from 13 matches. In IPL 12, he scored only 2 half-centuries. 

3. Rahul Chahar

The right arm leg spinner Rahul Chahar performed brilliantly for Mumbai Indians in IPL 12. He was sensational with his bowling taking 13 wickets from 13 matches at an economy of 6.55 runs per over.

In IPL 2019, he bowled in the middle overs by picking wickets and controlling the run flow. His best figures in this year’s IPL was 3/19. This is a great chance to build a team for the T20 World Cup 2020.

Rahul Chahar could be given a chance in the 3 match T20 series. He took 2 for 32 in the first ODI match against West Indies A on 11th July. In the second ODI, Chahar was impressive with figures of 2/47. 

He has 24 List A matches and taken 42 wickets with an economy of 4.89 runs per over. In T20 format, Chahar has taken 27 wickets from 25 matches (24 innings) at an economy of 6.98 runs per over. 

This will be a great chance for the selectors to choose him in the T20I squad and groom for the big tournament in 2020 World Cup. 

4. Shreyas Gopal

Shreyas Gopal is another young all-rounder who impressed for Rajasthan Royals in IPL season 12. He was the pick of bowlers for RR with 20 wickets from 14 matches at an economy of 7.22. In IPL season 12, Gopal took a hattrick against Royal Challengers Bangalore. 

Gopal is handy bat lower down the order. He has the experience of so many matches for Karnataka in domestic cricket. He could be selected in the T20I squad against West Indies. If he is selected against the West Indies, it will be a chance to prove his worth in the shorter format. 

5. Navdeep Saini

Navdeep Saini impressed all of us in the IPL with his ability to bowl fast. He was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 11 but did not play any match. Saini took 11 wickets from 13 matches at an economy of 8.27 runs per over. 

His ability to bowl quick pace and surprise the opposition batsmen makes him a future for Team India. During the West Indies A tour, Saini was impressive with figures of 5/46 in the 2nd One day international played at North Sound, Antigua on 14th July.

Youngsters like him deserve a chance in the Indian T20 squad. He can create an impact on the match with his quick bowling. 

Saini has played 39 List A matches and taken 63 wickets with an economy of 5.04 runs per over. He could be an ideal pacer for India keeping in mind of World T20. 

6. Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan is a young wicketkeeper-batsman who has done brilliantly well in List A and domestic circuit for Jharkhand. In the IPL season 12, Kishan did not have a great season with 101 runs from 7 matches. 

He was the leading runs scorer for Jharkhand in the 2018/19 Vijay Hazare Trophy with 405 runs from nine matches. In February 2019, Kishan scored an unbeaten century against Jammu and Kashmir of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. In the next match, the wicketkeeper-batsman scored 113 not out against Manipur.

Kishan has played so far 54 List A matches and scored 1804 runs with the best score of 139. With key players be to be dropped or rested, he could be an ideal solution in the middle order. 

He scored 24 each in the first two One day international matches against West Indies A. With MS Dhoni to be not included, Kishan could be tried in the T20I format and could be included in the playing XI for the West Indies series.

7. Ruturaj Gaikwad

Ruturaj Gaikwad is another youngster who can be tried in the T20I format against West Indies. While opening the innings in the 2nd ODI match against West Indies A, Gaikwad was the top scorer with 85 and laid a strong foundation with Gill to help India A post a modest total of 255 for 8. 

He has been a consistent performer for Maharashtra in List A and domestic cricket. With the World T20 slated for next year, Gaikwad could be tried in the Indian T20 series against West Indies. 

8. Anmolpreet Singh

Anmolpreet Singh is a young batsman who plays for Punjab in Ranji Trophy. He has played 17 List A, 17 T20s for Punjab. He was bought by Mumbai Indians in IPL 2019 for RS 80 Lakhs. The Punjab born player performed brilliantly in the home series against Sri Lanka A. 

He is a promising young batsman who can big strokes with ease. With new players needed in T20I format, he could be tried for the T20I series.

Anmolpreet Singh made his Ranji Trophy debut in 2017/18 season and was the leading runs scorer for Punjab with 753 runs in 5 matches.
