Pakistan faces the likelihood of losing the hosting rights for a major tournament once again due to India’s ongoing reluctance to tour the country.
Dainik Jagran and other sources indicate that due to India’s persistent reluctance to tour Pakistan, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is exploring the possibility of relocating the 2025 Champions Trophy to a neutral venue.
Currently, the ICC is evaluating the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as a potential alternative, similar to the 2021 T20 World Cup. Additionally, there is consideration for a hybrid model, where Pakistan would host matches not involving India during the tournament.

Pakistan hosted just four matches in the 2023 Asia Cup, while Sri Lanka hosted all of India’s matches, including the final. Previous reports suggest that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has sought compensation from the ICC if the hosting rights for the tournament are moved away from Pakistan.
The PCB proposed that the ICC involve an independent security agency to collaborate with Pakistani security officials in ensuring the safety of teams participating in the tournament.
The BCCI remains firm in its decision not to tour Pakistan, citing the delicate diplomatic relations between the two nations. The final decision may depend on the Indian government’s stance.

The 2025 Champions Trophy was anticipated to be a significant testament to Pakistan’s capability to host major tournaments. The credibility of their hosting abilities was impacted severely by the infamous 2009 attack on the Sri Lankan team.
Over the past few years, Pakistan has gradually regained hosting opportunities, welcoming teams such as Zimbabwe, West Indies, Australia, New Zealand, and England.
Pakistan’s anticipation to host a major tournament again might face a prolonged delay, as the BCCI shows little inclination to change its current stance.
The last time Pakistan hosted a major tournament was in 2008 with the Asia Cup, while their last ICC tournament hosting was the 1996 ODI World Cup, which they co-hosted with India and Sri Lanka.
