He pointed out three foreign names who RR can retain ahead of the mega auction.

Aakash Chopra said Rajasthan should look to retain Jofra Archer, Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler. He excluded RR skipper Steve Smith’s name from the list. “If there is a mega-auction, in my opinion they should retain Jofra, Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler if possible although I don’t think they will be able to retain three overseas players. But if possible they should retain even with RTM,” Chopra said.

Aakash Chopra further said none of the Indian players like Sanju Samson, Rahul Tewatia or Shreyas Gopal is worth retaining. Rajasthan Royals will hope to revamp their squad as they keen to lift their second IPL title.

“I don’t see an Indian player in the Rajasthan Royals lineup who you need to keep for 7-7.5 or 12 crore. Sanju Samson, Rahul Tewatia, Kartik Tyagi or Shreyas Gopal – none of them is a player who is worth the retention money,” Chopra added.

The Royals finished last in the points table after starting their IPL 2020 season with a bang. However, they lost their momentum midway through the competition allowing other teams to have an upper hand on them. They finally ended with 12 points which was not enough to see them make the playoffs.
