‘We Have Got A Few Options’ – Aaron Finch Identifies Three Players Who Can Open In David Warner’s Absence

Australia’s limited over skipper Aaron Finch reckons that they have a few options available for him at the top in the absence of David Warner in the side. Finch’s opening partner Warner was injured while fielding during the second ODI between India and Australia in Sydney.

Since Warner was injured, Australia called up destructive opening batter Darcy Short who was part of their T20 side, though it is unlikely that he’ll be getting a game since the Australian side is looking for someone from the existing squad to replace Warner as Finch’s opening partner.

‘We Have Got A Few Options’ – Aaron Finch

Ahead of the 3rd and the final ODI against India, Finch said that they will be looking to pick one of Matthew Wade, Alex Carey and Marnus Labuschagne to open the innings. Carey and Wade have opened for other sides in the past whereas Marnus’s technique would make him a great choice as an opener.

“We have not picked a team yet, but we have got a few options. Whether we go Wadey in the side or Marnus comes up and opens the batting, Alex Carey has done a lot of it in the past,” Cricket.com.au quoted Aaron Finch as saying.

Aaron Finch further added how the middle order has been functioning really well for the Australian side as each of the middle-order batsman has been among the runs in the ongoing series. He said with the series comfortably in the favour of the Australians, they can look to experiment with their batting order.

“But the middle-order has been functioning really well over the last little while. That is the beauty of being two-nil up in the series, you can look to experiment if you want to do that or you can look to play the safe option,” he added.
