Suryakumar Yadav, the veteran batsman for the Mumbai Indians (MI), made fun of Akash Madhwal after the latter had taken five wickets in the Eliminator match against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the ongoing IPL 2023.
At the Chepauk Stadium on May 24, MI crushed Lucknow by 81 runs. While Lucknow was chasing 183, they were bowled out for 101, and Madhwal was the master wrecker, finishing with 5/5 in 3.2 overs.
In a video for the official IPL website, Madhwal spoke extensively with Suryakumar following the game. However, the cricketer, who was born in Roorkee, is dissatisfied with his performance and strives for improvement.

After Akash Madhwal’s game-winning spell against LSG, Suryakumar Yadav makes a joke, “Ab kya 10 wickets lega”.
“I was working extremely hard. These numbers aren’t great for me, and I want to perform even better,” said Akash Madhwal.
Quickly following Madhwal’s remarks, Suryakumar jokingly questioned whether the former is now aiming for a 10-wicket haul.
Do you intend to take 10 wickets, Suryakumar asked. “Ab kya 10 wickets lega”. He has changed his attitude and is striving for improvement.
Although he claims he wants to take 10 wickets, his spell today came just when the team needed it, the analyst continued.
In IPL 2022, the Mumbai franchise signed Akash Madhwal to replace Suryakumar Yadav. Despite warming the bench, he was given a spot in the starting lineup for the current campaign due to his dedication.
In seven games, he has already taken 13 wickets, including a four- and a five-wicket haul.
Akash Madhwal on his discussions with MI captain Rohit Sharma: “Me and bhaiya planned and discussed it at the hotel”.
Jasprit Bumrah was unable to play in IPL 2023 due to injury, so it was up to the young Indian pacers to step up. By seizing the chance, Akash Madhwal carved out a niche for himself. In the semifinal match against the Super Giants, Madhwal excelled.
On Wednesday, when questioned about his strategy, the right-arm pacer admitted that he and Rohit Sharma had discussed the weather on the way to the field.
”When I got the new ball, I thought of sticking to my strengths and bowling hard lengths” Madhwal said. “Rohit bhaiya told me the same thing and said I’d get help from the surface”.
While staying at the hotel, bhaiya and I planned and talked about it. Bhaiya informed me of the circumstances and what I should be doing. I had a distinct mentality”.
When Mumbai and the Gujarat Titans square off in Qualifier 2 in Ahmedabad on May 26, Akash Madhwal will look to carry on his success.
