Bengal’s opening batsman Abhimanyu Easwaran was adjudged the Best Cricketer of the Year by the Cricket Association of Bengal on Thursday. It is for the second consecutive year that Easwaran has been declared the winner in this category. The right-handed batsman has also been named the Gentleman Cricketer of the Year.
In a fruitful 2018-19 Ranji Trophy season, Easwaran amassed 861 runs from six matches at an average of 95.66, including two hundreds and a double hundred. He was also Bengal”s second highest run-getter in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament, wherein he scored 331 runs from 11 innings at an average of 41.37 and a strike-rate of 136.77.
A regular feature of the India-A squad over the past couple of years, Easwaran presented a strong case for himself before the national selectors by scoring a century (117) against Sam Billings” touring England Lions and a double ton (233) against Sri Lanka-A earlier this year.
Deepti Sharma, a regular member of the Indian women’s team, has been declared as the Best Senior Women’s Cricketer of the Year. Playing for Uttar Pradesh till the 2016-17 season, the all-rounder was roped in by the C.A.B in 2017, and since then has become a vital member of the Bengal women’s team, helping it win the U-23 National Championship as well as the Senior Women’s One Day League.
The awards will be given away in C.A.B’s annual awards ceremony, likely to be held at the Netaji Indoor Stadium on August 3.
