Abhishek Sharma Faces Fan Criticism After Another Low Score

India’s young T20I opener, Abhishek Sharma, is under scrutiny once again after a disappointing performance against South Africa in the second T20I in Gqeberha. Sharma, who has struggled with consistency, managed only four runs before being caught by Marco Jansen off Gerald Coetzee’s bowling.

This was his third consecutive single-digit score, and his eighth out of nine T20I innings in which he failed to cross the 20-run mark. Fans on social media expressed their frustration, labeling him an “IPL bully,” due to his apparent inability to replicate his IPL success in international games. Despite a stellar IPL season for Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he scored 484 runs with a strike rate above 200, Sharma has been unable to find similar success with the Indian squad.

Calls for Ruturaj Gaikwad’s Inclusion

Fans have voiced strong opinions on social media, with some arguing that other players, like Ruturaj Gaikwad, deserve a place in the team over Sharma. Gaikwad, known for his consistency and performance for Chennai Super Kings, has put up impressive scores in recent games.

Many believe Gaikwad’s form warrants his inclusion in the Indian side, especially as Sharma continues to struggle against international bowlers. Critics have noted that Sharma seems more at ease on IPL tracks and struggles on less favorable pitches, highlighting his difficulty in adjusting to the challenges of international cricket.

India’s Struggles with a Shaky Batting Line-Up

India’s total of 124 runs in the second T20I reflected the team’s struggle, with Sharma’s early dismissal adding pressure to an already fragile batting line-up. Hardik Pandya was the top scorer with 39 off 45 balls, while Axar Patel and Tilak Varma contributed 21 and 20 runs, respectively.

India’s decision to play only seven recognized batters left the middle order with limited freedom to stabilize the innings after early setbacks. With Sharma’s inconsistent form, fans and analysts are questioning the selection strategy, suggesting that players with more reliable performances should be prioritized.
