Indian batter Abhishek Sharma turned 25 on Thursday, September 4, and celebrated the occasion with a specially designed cake. His sister, Komal Sharma, shared a sneak peek of the celebration on her Instagram stories. The cake featured a cricket theme, complete with a fondant figure of a player holding a bat and helmet, positioned on a pitch surrounded by stumps.

The left-handed batsman is set to feature next in the 2025 Asia Cup, which kicks off on September 9. India has been placed in Group A alongside hosts UAE, Oman, and Pakistan. Currently, Abhishek Sharma holds the top spot in the ICC Men’s T20I batting rankings.

So far, the opener has played 17 T20Is for India, scoring 535 runs at an average of 33.43 with an impressive strike rate of 193.84. His record includes two half-centuries and two centuries, with a career-best score of 135.

“Abhishek Sharma is the toughest to bowl to” – India spinner reveals

India leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi recently appeared on the YouTube podcast Game Changers, where he was asked which batter he finds the most challenging to bowl to. He replied:

“Right now, I think Abhishek Sharma is batting really well. Against him, I feel I need to bring something extra from my side. As a leg-spinner, I feel he plays me quite well. He has worked very hard in the off-season, and even now you can see him putting in the effort day in and day out. The way he is batting, I always think about how I can improve against him. I keep trying to figure out how I can get better when I bowl to such good batters.”

Abhishek has thoroughly dominated Bishnoi in T20s, scoring 37 runs off only eight balls against the leg-spinner, at an astonishing strike rate of 462.5.
