Abhishek Sharma created history on Wednesday by becoming the fastest batter to reach 100 sixes in T20Is during the opening match between India and England. Opening the innings alongside Sanju Samson, Abhishek smashed two sixes in just nine deliveries to complete the milestone in only 785 balls.
The Punjab batter went past Evin Lewis, who had previously held the record after reaching 100 T20I sixes in 789 deliveries. Among players from Full-Member nations, Finn Allen is next on the list, having achieved the feat in 871 balls earlier this year.
Abhishek also eclipsed the previous Indian record held by former T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav, who needed 1007 deliveries to reach the mark. In terms of innings, Abhishek got to the milestone in 48 innings, making him the second-fastest overall behind Lewis, who achieved it in 42 innings.
Abhishek Sharma Emerges As World Cricket’s Most Explosive T20I Opener
Since making his T20I debut for India in July 2024, Abhishek Sharma has established himself as one of the most destructive opening batters in world cricket during the current World Cup cycle and currently sits second in the International Cricket Council T20I batter rankings.
Although he endured a disappointing campaign in the World Cup earlier this year, Abhishek bounced back with a brilliant half-century in the final against New Zealand in Ahmedabad in March. With more than 1450 runs in his T20I career, Abhishek boasts a strike rate of over 190, the highest among all batters with at least 1000 runs in the format.
Meanwhile, his teenage teammate Vaibhav Sooryavanshi holds the record for being the fastest batter to reach 100 sixes across all T20 cricket, achieving the milestone in just 515 deliveries during his record-breaking 2026 Indian Premier League campaign with the Rajasthan Royals.
