Abrar Ahmed Hospitalized After Multan Test

Pakistan leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed has been hospitalized after falling ill during the ongoing Test match against England in Multan. Despite bowling 35 overs on a challenging Day 3, he ended his spell without taking a wicket, contributing to England’s first innings total of 823/7. Following a strenuous performance, Abrar did not take the field with the team on the fourth day, prompting concerns about his health.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed that he underwent several medical tests, with further updates expected once the results are available. Reports indicate that Abrar developed a high fever and body aches early on Day 4, leading to his hospitalization.

A Disappointing Performance

This match has been particularly tough for Abrar, as he failed to make an impact despite his potential. His previous performance against England at the same venue in 2022 saw him claim 11 wickets, but the current match has not mirrored that success.

As a result of the flat pitch conditions, Abrar was forced to adopt a defensive bowling strategy, keeping the ball outside the leg-stump to limit scoring opportunities. His inability to take wickets during England’s lengthy innings, which spanned 150 overs, marked a significant downturn in form.

In addition, the team had initially included Noman Ali and Zahid Mahmood in their squad but released them before the match commenced, further highlighting Abrar’s critical role in the lineup.

Abrar’s Injury Struggles

At just 26 years old, Abrar’s journey has been marred by injury issues. His career began promisingly with Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League at the age of 18, but he has faced several setbacks.

A persistent back injury sidelined him for an extended period, and he recently suffered a pinched nerve in his leg during a tour game prior to the Test series against Australia, which ultimately forced him to withdraw from that series.

Despite these challenges, he has shown great potential on the field. The cricket community will be hoping for a swift recovery for Abrar Ahmed, who has the talent to make a significant impact in future matches.
