Former Australian wicket-keeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist made a huge error during commentary in the first ODI between India and Australia in Sydney. Gilchrist thought and said that Navdeep Saini lost his father last week, while actually, it was Mohammed Siraj who lost his father after he landed in Australia.

However, he was quick to apologise and correct himself after a Twitter user corrected him. The India cricket fans were quick to point out on Twitter to Gilchrist regarding his mistake. Adam Gilchrist, in reply, took to Twitter to apologise to both Siraj and Saini.

“@gilly381FYI- its not @navdeepsaini96 father who died. It was Mohammad Siraj! @FoxCricket#goofup #commentarygoofups” a Twitter user named Anshu Nayyar wrote on Twitter.

Meanwhile, understanding his mistake, Gilchrist was quick to apologise. The former Aussie wicket-keeper batsman took to microblogging site Twitter to convey his apologies to Navdeep Saini and Mohammed Siraj.

“Yes, thanks @anshu2912. I realize I was mistaken in my mention. Huge apologies for my error, to both @navdeepsaini96 and Mohammed Siraj,” Adam Gilchrist wrote in his social media post.

Australia skipper Aaron Finch won the toss Friday and elected to bat first in the series-opening one-day international against India, a return to international cricket Down Under following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj spoke after he lost his father. He was brave enough to stay back in Australia and not return home for the last rights after the BCCI allowed him to do so.

“My father was my biggest support, it’s a big loss for me. My father’s wish was to see me play for India. My mindset is to fulfill his dream. My father is not here in this world but he is with me all the time,” Siraj told BCCI in a video interview.

He also thanked his skipper Virat Kohli and head coach Ravi Shastri for staying beside him in these tough times.

“The coach Shastri Sir and captain Virat Kohli were informed about the news. They just told me to be bold and are lending all the support,” Siraj told Sportstar.
