Additional Security For Rohit Sharma’s Ranji Trophy Return After A Decade

India captain Rohit Sharma is set to make his much-anticipated return to the Ranji Trophy after a decade, representing Mumbai. This marks his first domestic appearance since November 2015, when he last played against Uttar Pradesh. Mumbai will face Jammu and Kashmir in the second leg of the Ranji Trophy at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) starting Thursday.

Rohit is part of Mumbai’s 17-member squad alongside fellow Test opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. His decision to participate in domestic cricket has generated significant excitement among fans and the cricketing fraternity.

Special Security and Seating Arrangements

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has made elaborate preparations to accommodate the anticipated heavy turnout for this match. Seating arrangements have been increased to accommodate up to 500 spectators at the BKC facility, where Mumbai regularly plays its Ranji games.

Additionally, enhanced security measures are in place to ensure a smooth experience for fans. An MCA official confirmed these arrangements, emphasizing the association’s readiness to manage the crowd. While the venue’s capacity is modest, the excitement surrounding Rohit’s participation has made this match a standout event in the ongoing season.

Sunil Gavaskar Praises Rohit’s Decision

Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar lauded Rohit Sharma’s decision to return to domestic cricket, highlighting its importance in regaining form. “It’s good to see Rohit back in the Ranji Trophy,” Gavaskar said. “Spending time in the middle during a competitive game is invaluable, especially after a challenging series in Australia.

Batting in an actual match, where every mistake can lead to dismissal, is completely different from net practice.” Rohit’s comeback also comes at a crucial time for Mumbai, who are currently ranked third in Elite Group A, trailing Baroda and Jammu and Kashmir. Under Ajinkya Rahane’s captaincy, Mumbai must deliver a top-notch performance to advance in the tournament and defend their Ranji title.
