Mumbai defeated Delhi by 4 wickets in the finals of 2018/19 Vijay Hazare Trophy played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore a few moments ago. A great bowling performance by Mumbai bowlers helped to bowl Delhi for a low total, despite losing early wickets, Mumbai chased down the target with ease.
Mumbai captain Sheryas Iyer won the toss and decided to field first. Tushar Deshpande got Mumbai off to a perfect start dismissing Delhi captain Gautam Gambhir for 1 run. It was a great bowling spell by Dhawal Kulkarni who took the wicket of Unmukut Chand and then Tushar Deshpande dismissed Manan Sharma. At the end of 10 overs, Delhi scored 25 for 3. Nitish Rana and Dhruv Shorey steadied the innings with a 41 runs stand for the fourth wicket. Dubey dismissed Rana for 13.
Mumbai bowlers kept picking wickets at regular intervals. Himmat Singh and Pawan Negi played well before Negi retired hurt. Navdeep Saini and Bhati added 31 runs for the 9th wicket. Pawan Negi did not come back to bat after an injury. Mumbai bowled Delhi for 177 in 45.4 overs. Himmat Singh was the top scorer for Delhi with 41 while Pawan Negi retired on 21 off 19. Bhati scored 25 off 22 balls. For Mumbai, Dhawal Kulkarni and S Dubey picked 3 wickets each while Deshpande took 2 wickets. The other wicket-taker for Mumbai was Mulani with 1 for 47.
Chasing 178 runs to win, Navdeep Saini got the big wickets of Prithvi Shaw, Rahane and Surya Kumar Yadav put Mumbai under pressure at 25 for 3. Kulwant Khejroliya dismissed Mumbai captain Sheryas Iyer to break the backbone of Mumbai batting line up. At the end of 10 overs, Mumbai scored 63 for 4. Siddesh Lad and Aditya Tare played with positive intent putting pressure on Delhi bowlers. Tare reached his half-century off 61 balls. Lad and Tare added 115 runs for the 5th wicket. Manan Sharma dismissed Tare for 71. Shivam Dubey played a cameo knock remaining not out on 19 off 12 balls. Before the winning runs, Siddesh Lad was dismissed for 48. Mumbai won the match by 4 wickets with 90 balls to spare.
For Delhi, Navdeep Saini took 3 for 53 in 10 overs while Manan Sharma and Lalit Yadav took 1 wicket each.
