After leading his side to victory in the recently concluded Deodhar trophy, Indian test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane is confident of making his return to the ODI side for the next edition of World Cup in 2019. His 144* against India B in the final proved that he is quick enough in the ODI formats with his boundaries and running between the wickets.
Rahane represented India in 90 ODI”S scoring over 2900 runs at an average of 35.26. He is known for his adaptability to any position in the line – up. He even bagged the man of the series award in 2017 windies series where he justified his role as an opener. He last played an ODI against Southafrica earlier this year. As the BCCI is trying out to formulate a strong XI ahead of the world cup, the chances of his return look bleak.
In a recent interview to Hindustan Times, Rahane was quoted saying “I am confident of making a comeback and I am confident of playing the World Cup. That is why I played domestic cricket because it helped me and I am sure I will bounce back.”
On the other hand, Rayudu who has been in a fine form since the IPL has already cemented his number four position. Rahane certainly has a lot of things to do before he can get that spot in the ODI”s. He will be seen in action in the four-match Test series against Australia later this month.
