Ajinkya Rahane ended as the top scorer for India in the inaugural ICC World Test Championship campaign. He scored 1159 runs from 18 Test matches. He is also a part of the Indian squad for the upcoming Test series against England. Rahane will continue as the vice-captain of the side for the upcoming series. Meanwhile, former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Deep Dasgupta does not seem pleased with the veteran in recent times.

Speaking about Rahane in his YouTube channel, Dasgupta said that Rahane is not the same player that he was during 2015-16 season with his footwork an issue in recent times.

Ajinkya Rahane Not The Same Player That He Was: Deep Dasgupta

“I don’t think Rahane is the same player that he was. In 2015-16, Rahane was unbelievable. He was a player that I saw playing for Mumbai. The Wankhede pitch on the first morning was moist, the pitch had grass and it was a nightmare batting there those days. But Rahane scored more than 4000-4500 runs before playing for India, batting predominantly at No.3 position.”

Speaking more about Ajinkya Rahane’s footwork, Dasgupta said that he is tentative with his footwork at the moment and does not look setlled with the first 20 balls that he faces.

“When you bat in India, your skillset changes. You play swing and pace outside but here (England) you need to play reverse swing. If you go and check Rahane’s footwork in 2015-16, you will realize that (now) his footwork is not that definite. He is very tentative in his first 20 balls and whenever he plays a big innings, he is a lot more confident.”

The Indian contingent in England is currently on a break after losing the World Test Championship final against New Zealand. This was his third loss in an ICC knockout game. The India vs England Test series also kicks off the second cycle of the World Test Championship. The first Test will be played at Trent Bridge from August 4-8. The remaining four games will be played at Lord’s Headingley, The Oval and Manchester.
