Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has raised concerns about fake quotes being falsely linked to him by various sports websites and individual social media accounts. He urged fans to stay alert and cautious about such misleading content online.
Gavaskar addressed the issue through a video posted on his Instagram, bringing attention to the matter. While actively involved in the coverage of the ongoing England-India Test series, he did not name any specific quotes or sources responsible for spreading the misinformation.

“Over the last few months, it has come to my notice that a lot of sports websites and individual accounts have been attributing comments and quotes to me that I’ve never made. I request everybody to verify, fact-check, and not to believe everything that they write, particularly coming from some of these individual accounts and sports websites,” Gavaskar shared.
Sunil Gavaskar’s remarks gained significant attention, particularly during the first Test when Rishabh Pant notched a century in the opening innings. Revisiting his earlier statement from the Melbourne Test against Australia, he offered a fresh comment to mark Pant’s achievement.
Gavaskar Criticises Renaming Of Pataudi Trophy
The former India captain has also openly criticized the decision to rename the Pataudi Trophy as the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. He expressed disappointment, stating that Sachin Tendulkar, being a complete cricketer in every sense, deserved to have his name mentioned first—rather than placing the English pacer ahead.
The former cricketer will be hoping for a strong comeback from the Indian team after their heavy loss to England in the first Test at Headingley. This was despite centuries from Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, and Yashasvi Jaiswal in the first innings. Gavaskar also criticized the Indian bowling attack for underperforming in Leeds.
Apart from Jasprit Bumrah, the rest of the bowlers failed to make an impact. With Bumrah possibly missing the second Test in Birmingham, there are concerns over whether the bowling unit can step up. The match will also be a key test of Shubman Gill’s leadership skills if the team is without its main fast bowler.
