Mithali Raj’s Team India beat the Australian women’s team in the third ODI after losing the first ODI in a rather unfortunate manner. Jhulan Goswami whose final delivery in the second ODI was called a no-ball helped India win the 3rd and was adjudged as the Man of the Match. The Aussies won the series but it was the Indian team that showed great character and fight.
India won 265 required to win with two wickets to spare. Meanwhile, Alyssa Healy from the opposition take a dig at Mithali Raj who scored a 16-ball 28. Healy was heard sledging Raj for her lower strike rate in chases and pointed out that it would benefit the Australians.
“Mithali Raj only strikes at 50 in chases, so the longer she’s in, the happier we are,” Healy was heard saying. Meanwhile, the Australian wicketkeeper-batsman made a young fan’s day after the game giving away wicketkeeping gloves and a jersey to the fan.
Mithali Raj Scored 28 Off 16
Jhulan Goswami after taking three wickets with the ball, remained unbeaten to take her side home. She scored 8 off 7 balls including a boundary. Shafali Verma’s 56 and Yastika Bhatia’s 64 laid India a great platform. Deepti Sharma (31) and Sbeh Rana(30) helped India to get over the line.
” It’s good to have a little bit of depth in the batting order, we have bowlers who can bat and that gives us a little more depth in our line-up. We tried some combinations with all-rounders and it worked. Pooja Vastrakar got wickets and Deepti did well with runs and crucial wickets, Shafali was good and Sneh Rana did really well” said Raj.
“It was important to bounce back from the second match, that loss hurt us, but it did set up the girls as they knew that we could put up a good score. It was good to chase today, I lost the toss again, think that’s a big streak as well (laughs), we are good in that (chasing), but I think the last game gave us confidence going into today’s encounter (in terms of putting a score on the board)” added the Indian skipper.
